About

Why Polypropylene?

My passion for contemporary jewellery began during my time as a teacher in the 1990s. Adult education classes in London and Derbyshire equipped me with the silversmithing skills and confidence to experiment with my chosen materials and to develop a personal approach to design.

A desire to work with a recyclable material led me to develop my own technique for fusing polypropylene. Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer used in stationery, bank notes, food packaging and many other every day applications and is widely recycled. I am able to use recycled polypropylene in my work in the form of old note book covers and drinking straws. As a "no waste" process, every little scrap can be incorporated into a new piece.

This new polypropylene jewellery range is inspired by geology and microscopic life. My technique allows me to create paper-thin units, which are assembled to make three dimensional pieces. I love to work intuitively, with pieces often evolving at the bench.

Living and working in the west of Scotland has influenced my work, with light, transparency and reflection becomming increasingly important features.

Custom and personalised orders

I am happy to take custom orders, but please be aware that due to the nature of my process every item will be slightly different. Colours and sizes will vary.

Special Offers

Many of the pieces available in my etsy shop will be samples and test pieces. They are of course made to the same high standards, but will enable you to buy my work at a lower price than the full retail prices.

Care instructions

Polypropylene is a strong and durable material. My jewellery is waterproof, but please avoid high temperatures.
