Serious Mud Addiction

About my shop: Each item I sell at FireDance Pottery is handmade by me. I throw most pieces by hand on the wheel then hand finish with the little details. Sometimes a piece is hand built using slabs or coils. This process ensures that you are purchasing something unique, not something out of a standard mould.

About me and my love of ceramics:
In 1999 while attending Westminster College in Salt Lake City I took my very first ceramics class (Majolica Pottery). I ended up taking a class every semester until graduating. Then a few years later I went back to school hoping to get another degree in Biology. I ended up spending every night sometimes until midnight in the ceramics studio. I finally realized then that playing in the "mud" is my passion and should be my career.
In 2007 I started selling my wares in small local markets, farmers markets and at festivals. I started out slowly at first and then gained confidence and started thinking about selling online.
I took a break in 2010 after having my daughter and slowly started building up momentum again.
Then in 2012 I decided that Etsy would be the perfect platform for me to help me get my business to a larger market while I stay home and raise my daughter. I love running my Etsy shop, getting inspired by custom orders and trying to constantly improve on my technique.
I am and always will be completely addicted to the process of making ceramics. I can feel when it's been too long since i've been in the studio, I get antsy, I need to get "mud" fix. I love the feeling of unloading a kiln when it's been glaze fired, it's like Christmas. I love to make things that people will use daily. I like to think about the pieces that i've made over the years in the cupboards of people's homes being used and loved.
I fill my own cupboards at home with a variety of different styles and colors of my own work. Over the years I've slowly replace all of the "factory" ceramics in my house, and now when I open my cupboard it's like an adventure in an eclectic ceramic shop.

I took my first ceramics class in college in 1999. I took a ceramics class each semester until graduation, and went back to study another degree later ending up in the studio every night. Finally I understood this is what i'm supposed to do.

Welcome to the Etsy shop for FireDance Studio. I make all of my ceramics out of my home studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. I enjoy making handmade one of a kind ceramics using a variety of techniques, forms and glazes. All of my functional pieces are made with non-toxic lead free glazes and clays and are food safe. I occasionally list sculpture or Raku pieces that are for display only (not food safe) and these are specifically labelled **not food safe**.

Although most of my pieces are dishwasher safe, to preserve the beauty of glaze shine, hand washing is recommended, as dishwasher detergents may etch the surface slowly over time and dull the finish.
