Announcement    Hello. My name is Barry Singer. I have lived my entire life in Northeast Pennsylvania. Sometimes I am called the Fish Fanatic or GYOTAKU Artist. A graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, I enjoyed a long career in advertising art, printing, and education. Now retired, I spend my time with family, fishing, gardening, reading, traveling, and of course making art. I am honored to share my art with you.
***GYOTAKU originated in Japan around 200 years ago. The word means fish rubbing.
The process is simple: Pigment is applied to a fish, and then paper (or cloth) is pressed against the fish. If done with a careful steady hand, the result is a beautiful, accurate mirror image. It was first done to document the size and variety of fish … It is now appreciated as an art form, many folks enjoy them more than a mounted trophy. The Japanese believe that they bring good luck and prosperity to anyone who hangs one in their home or business. Can't find a gift for someone who has everything? Difficult to shop for? Frame one of these. They don't have one and they'll love it.

Here is a short video about my work: (Copy and paste into your browser).
