Announcement    Welcome!! Thanks for dropping by!! I'm so excited to announce a new CONCRETE section is now in the shop!! I've added in some cool cement cone planters to start with and will add more product once I take pictures and write some copy :) In the meantime, there's a SALE happening right now so be sure to check it out and see if there's anything you would like to snap up at a great price!! At the first of this year I wanted to take fishwarp in a new direction. I wanted to create a works of art and at the same time make something functional while using upcycled materials as much as possible. I've been having fun the last few weeks creating some new colorful wall hangings that feature upcycled tassel fringes and loops, as well as fiber rainbows that use upcycled fabrics from local thrift stores. There are some eco-friendly bags in the shop also that would make great gifts for any celebration and would be a cool way to reduce your carbon footprint! Hang out and browse and let me know if you have any questions!

About

I've always been surrounded by art.

I can’t remember a time when creating something from upcycled materials wasn’t a part of my everyday life. From my mom picking up spindles from dilapidated homes and turning them into candlestick holders (remember decoupage??) to my grandmother Mama, saving old wallpaper books for me when I visited during the summer and letting me create to my heart’s content… I thought I was in heaven. I graduated from college with a double major in Art Marketing and Commercial Design. One of my favorite classes was weaving. I loved how you could get lost in the process of creating. It's a very meditative process. I am now a graphic artist by day and a weaver by night. A perfect mix I think!

In fishwarp, you’ll find unique, fun, colorful weavings and macrame that will add a cool element to any room in your house! Each of my weavings is entirely unique, as I make each one by hand with found, upcycled products. I try to use locally sourced materials as often as possible, whether that means using bits of wood I find while walking my dog Ollie around the neighborhood, or buying wool from local vendors. All the fabrics I use are upcycled from various closet cast-offs, and I buy most of my beads from the nearby artistic haven of Asheville, NC. My process involves a lot of layering of textures and colors to create the perfect visual pop.

I recently started macrame again and have now become obsessed with the process! My macrame are just as unique as my upcycled weavings and usually involve weaving in a pop of color with reclaimed sari silk ribbon, handspun yarns, upcycled fabrics and colorful wool roving. I love how the color complements the natural white cotton rope. I think it's so pretty!

I've also started making some really cool unique festival styled earrings and some funky keychains and am loving the process with both. My festival style earrings are made from reclaimed sari silk ribbons, sari silk yarn and other unique fibers and the keychains are a mix of reclaimed sari silk ribbon, hemp, unique beads and more! Each are one-of-a-kind and would add something special to your wardrobe/home!

I am inspired by everything I see, from the flattened pinecone on the road to the handmade paper that a present has come wrapped in. I save it all knowing that I’ll find a special place for it in one of my weavings or creations I come up with.

I started weaving again to make presents for family and friends. They loved the weavings and I loved making them. Macrame soon followed and I hope that both types of woven wall hangings will bring as much enjoyment to your home as they did to me when I was creating them!
