Leaving a legacy...
Mia nonna mi ha insegnato a cucire sulla sua macchina da cucire vintage Singer quando ero una ragazza e non vedo l'ora di insegnare a mia figlia come cucire. Ha già il bug dell'ossessione del tessuto. :) Immagino che sia quello che succede quando tua madre ha un negozio di tessuti.
Quello che amo davvero del tessuto è come ti ispira a creare qualcosa di bello per qualcuno che ami che può essere tramandato per generazioni. Ho delle trapunte che la mia bisnonna ha fatto e ricordo che mia nonna mi parlava del tessuto nelle trapunte. Alcuni dei pezzi provenivano dai suoi abiti quando era una ragazza o dalle camicie di suo padre. Potevi vedere tutti i ricordi tornare a lei quando parlava delle trapunte.
Ho aperto il mio negozio qualche anno fa perché amo davvero il tessuto e non ero sicuro di dove tutto avrebbe portato. È diventato più grande di quanto avessi mai sognato e mi ha permesso di lasciare il mio lavoro a tempo pieno per lavorare fuori casa. Adoro lavorare con i miei clienti e mettere insieme nuovi pacchetti di tessuti.
My grandmother taught me to sew on her vintage Singer sewing machine when I was a girl and I can't wait to teach my own daughter how to sew. She already has the fabric obsession bug. :) I guess that's what happens when your mom has a fabric shop.
What I really love about fabric is how it inspires you to create something beautiful for someone you love that can be passed down for generations. I have quilts that my great-grandmother made and I remember my grandmother telling me about the fabric in the quilts. Some of the pieces were from her dresses when she was a girl or from her father's shirts. You could see all the memories come flooding back to her when she would talk about the quilts.
I opened my shop a few years ago because I truly love fabric and I wasn't sure where it would all lead. It has grown larger than I ever dreamed it would and has allowed me to leave my full time job to work out of my home. I love working with my customers and putting together new fabric bundles.
