About Me
In 2008, after a very complicated pregnancy of my twin boys, I started having some memory loss issues (like putting dairy products in the closet instead of the fridge lol). My doctor suggested that I try crafting which might help with my memory loss issues. My mom who was staying with me for a few months when my twin boys were very little made jewelries using traditional techniques common in West Africa. I was really just looking for any types of crafting to help with my memory loss issues, but my mom advised me to try jewelry making among other things. In fact, my many of my relatives are master jewelers, notably my grandfather (Mom’s father) who had a big shop and made his entire life off of jewelry making. I actually sold jewelry for a short while when I was in college and I loved it. What I did not know what that I had the talent to make my own jewelry until I took my first class. I was so impressed by the colors and shapes of the beads so I started exploring. I went back to the shop where I took my class to get more beads and started making pieces.
In 2009, my first company was born in partnership with my husband. I was taking more classes including some at the annual Tucson Show. I was selling mainly through home parties. Time commitment for my kids activities, my jobs and my husband studies all contributed to my being burnout and I decided I would close the business.
After successfully helping with all the decoration of my brother’s wedding in 2016, I was very inspired to reopen my jewelry business. Fortunately, my husband had graduated and was totally helping with kids activities, hence in late 2017, Flaranto Jewelry was born. Flaranto is just an anagram of my kids ‘names.
A little about my professional background, I have a university degree in Accounting and work as a Systems analyst for a bank.
