It's all about the love for the Amazon Rainforest

Flavia Amadeu is a Brazilian designer and social entrepreneur. She supports small producers and artisans whose economic activities are integrated with the use of sustainable natural resources in the Amazon Rainforest. Her company FLAVIA AMADEU is dedicated to empower people, mainly women, and to contribute to the preservation of the natural environment and culture using design, craft and entrepreneurship skills as key tools.

Organic jewellery represents a process of social innovation, which resulting from years of research has been responsible for generating social transformation and environmental preservation.

The jewellery is unique and handcrafted using 100% organic wild rubber produced by rubber tapping communities mainly situated in the State of Acre in the Amazon rainforest. The latex collected from the sap of the trees only grows in the rainforest. These trees can be productive for generations. The liquid is then transported to the production units built beside the rubber tapper’s houses, where the coloured sheets are manufactured. Incentives include a superior economic return to all other kinds of rubber produced locally and production units close to home, allowing parents to look after their children. Therefore Organic Jewellery attracts the involvement of many young adults in the communities involved.

Organic Jewellery is initially flat, allowing the user to choose how they wear it. It is wearable architecture. There are endless possibilities including layering, stretching and gathering. The material characteristics perform the same as rubber and are available in a variety of colours. Organic Jewellery offers a contemporary and sustainable craft with a story behind every item. It is all about the love for the rainforest!
