Announcement   Fleur de Carotte provides playful and poetic jewellery & ceramics handmade in my Brighton studio.

Fleur de Carotte is a young brand of leather jewellery and ceramics born in 2015, for people who appreciate craftsmanship and products slowly handmade with soul.

The brand celebrates femininity and quirkiness, with a poetic touch. It is made for women who enjoy beauty in the details of everyday life, the natural world and art.
The inspiration behind it is the wildlife, the elegance of Art Deco lines, the madness of Memphis, everyday life scenes, existing and imaginary creatures, art, literature and my own imagination.

All of my jewellery and ceramics are slowly handmade with a lot of care and after my own sketches. I source most of my material, including my tools, from suppliers in Brighton and my packaging is 100% recycled.

►IMPORTANT: Please read my shop policy before placing an order. No refund will be made for damage, loss or delay caused by postal services as I am not liable for it.

About

Poetic jewellery & ceramics handmade in Brighton

I am passionate about art and crafts and I love sewing, printmaking, ceramics, weaving and jewellery making.
I am mainly self-taught and I have learnt these skills through experimenting. My jewellery is inspired by nature and the Art Deco movement. My ceramics are whimsical, playful and made after my own sketches.

I have been drawing, painting and making things for friends for ages. Most of my friends got a handmade present at some point!
After losing my job as a teacher, I decided that this was a sign from destiny to lead a more creative and fulfilling life as I was deeply seeking to do. I set up Fleur de Carotte as a business in February 2015 whilst working full-time then moved on to a part-time job in November 2015. Since then I have not looked back and have found a balance to sustain my creative business which makes me very happy.

My creative process starts with sketches, I have about 5 different sketch books and scribble messy drawings whenever an idea crosses my mind! My style and influences are very eclectic but mainly come from the 1920's: my jewellery is inspired by Art Deco and nature. I am inspired by artists who all had their workshops in Paris during the same era: Raoul Dufy, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. In terms of ceramics, I am working on an ever growing collection of handbuilt vases inspired by free-spirited female artists of the past decade. My Aquatic dishes are inspired by swiming and the sea.

I am very committed to helping local businesses and 80% of my material is from Brighton and Sussex suppliers. I upcycle leather remnants to make my jewellery and my packaging is 100% recycled and made in the UK. The semi-precious stones are from suppliers who do their best to trade ethically. Even my tools and business cards are supplied locally!

You can find more about my creative project on:

If you want to know more about my ethos, process and inspiration, read my interview on the fantastic creative blog Young Gold Teeth : https://younggoldteeth.com/2016/02/13/ygt-interviews-fleur-de-carotte

I took part in the Etsy UK Christmas in July Showroom 2016 and my textured clay jewellery is currently stocked by the Royal Academy of Arts.

My products are as eco-friendly as possible. I source all my material from small suppliers in the Brighton area and this even includes my ceramics and screenprinting material. The jewellery findings I use are from a local supplier with ethical standards and the leather off-cuts I use are from a local craftsman.

Feel free to get in touch, even just to say hello. I will answer any query in the next 24 hours (except week ends and holidays).
