Scraps of fabric mixed with love
You can call me the "Button Lady". I am a proud American, UF Alum (Go Gators!), wife to a Veteran and mama to two great kids! I learned to sew when I was a child, and I have always made my own clothes and done my own alterations. I also love to quilt, knit, crochet and craft like crazy.
When our son was born, I left my full-time job as an accountant to stay home with him. In my spare time, I began sewing and doing alterations (and taxes..LOL!) for my other mommy friends, and at their persistent urging, finally started my own sewing business. Four years later, I started dabbling in machine embroidery. We moved quite a bit with my husband's job, so I discovered Etsy as the perfect outlet for my handiwork because it moved with me.
I credit my Momma with teaching me how to sew as well teaching me the importance of frugality. When it came to saving money, my mother could pinch a penny 'til it screamed. She passed away when I was nineteen, so I am blessed to have learned this, as well as many other valuable life-lessons, from her before she died.
After her passing, I inherited Momma's scrap bag of fabrics, buttons and other craft notions that I am STILL using over 20 years later. I made my first monogrammed button with a hand-pressed Dritz button kit that was in her stash, and this business was born. Some of my favorite sewing projects involve recycling beloved items of clothing or linens to be used for other purposes. Hence the name "Flowersaks", which I derive from the Great Depression practice of recycling flour and feed sacks...and my neurotic tendency to not discard anything that still has a useful life. ;) I hate to see any piece of fabric thrown away if part of it could be reinvented into something beautiful.
The hardest thing about the work I do is deciding what to create next. I love it!!!
