Small batch smoke-fired pottery directly from Tacoma, Washington.

I graduated with my BFA from Southern Arkansas University in 2015. Clay is the medium that I learned to love the most. The thing that attracted me most to this medium was that it is directly connected to nature. The feeling of creating something beautiful from raw earth is not comparable to anything else. When I am throwing pottery on the wheel I prefer to focus on making clean modern forms, which later, are fired in a primitive barrel with numerous combustibles. The end result is like nothing else; a paradox of restraint / chaos trapped in a ceramic vessel.

When I am working, I am very methodical in everything that I do. I focus on subtle changes to my work over time, to master each form, then fire them in a relatively uncontrolled and primitive environment to achieve a unique aesthetic. By working in high quality stoneware clays and hand-dug local clays from various geological locations, to ensure the utmost in qualitative feeling of each object.

I began my journey with clay a few years ago, since then, I've become intensely focused on alternative firing techniques; particularly smoke firing. I find a certain satisfaction in the unpredictable nature of primitive firing techniques.
