About

Botanically-themed clothing and accessories from a backyard workshop in North Carolina

I started Flytrap Clothing over eight years ago, printing on my dining room table until the wee hours of the morning and supplementing the salary I earned at a local food co-op. Over the course of the first year, I quit my day job and hired an apprentice named Eric to help me print. As it turned out, we really liked working together--a lot--and one morning at 6am, after an entire night of printing, I looked over at Eric and said, "So this isn't about the screen printing any more, is it?" We got married five years later, to the day. Together we've purchased industrial equipment, rented a commercial space, bought an airy old house big enough to work from home, and built a backyard workshop. As you'd expect, our vision for our company has shifted and evolved throughout these years, but several things have remained constant: my love of plants, our complex ink colors, our super soft fabrics, and our crisp, detailed print technique.

We also want you to know we are a steadfastly local business. Our fabrics, leather, inks, and dyes are almost exclusively US-made. From time to time, we use imported products if we can verify that they are ethically manufactured, and only if we can't find a domestically-made option. Flytrap Clothing invests in a network of farmers, artisans, and small businesses, so when you buy our products, your dollars support local enterprise and help our small community thrive.

Simply put, I love plants. When I'm not working on my begonia collection or futzing in my own garden, you can find me volunteering at the pollinator garden up the street. My perfect Saturday morning is a cup of coffee and a shovel, rain or shine.

  • Eric Haugen

    Assistant

Eric is my husband. He teaches guitar lessons full-time during the week, but he uses his free mornings to help out with Flytrap. He loves: pickles, painting houses, nerding out on music gear, our pets, colorful socks, coffee, and catered events.

  • Molly Dedmond

    Assistant

Molly has a degree in printmaking and we are so lucky to have her as our intrepid, sunny shop assistant. She is our lead shirt-stacker, organizer, packager, and silkscreen maintenance expert, and she loves chickens.

Frequently asked questions

Who does your screen printing?

We do! Our passion for the screen printing process is what inspired us to start Flytrap Clothing over eight years ago, and our experience in the industry allows us to mix vibrant, complex ink colors and bring you detailed, crisp prints that won't bleed or fade over time.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

We make sure all our orders feel like gifts when you open them, whether they're unexpected surprises or treats you got for yourself. We never include pricing information, and we wrap in tissue paper secured with beautiful patterned tapes. If you'd like us to include a personalized note to the recipient, we'll be happy to help! Just let us know your message when you check out.

Do you offer wholesale pricing?

We love wholesale! For a link to our linesheet and more information, please email us at orders@flytrapstudios.com. We'll ask you to provide your business name and address so we can honor our existing exclusivity agreements, as well as your website so we can learn all about your shop and clientele.

What about consignment?

We cannot offer our goods on consignment at this time, but we have low minimum order requirements for wholesale, so maybe we can strike up an arrangement that will work for you! Thanks so much!
