About

Where in the world is Folk City?

Folk City is not a place. . . it's a state of mind.

folk
/fok/
• plural noun 1 (also folks) informal people in general. 2 (one’s folks) one’s family, especially one’s parents. 3 (also folk music) traditional music of unknown authorship, transmitted orally. 4 before another noun originating from the beliefs, culture, and customs of ordinary people: folk wisdom.
— ORIGIN Old English.

city
• noun (pl. cities) 1 a center of population, commerce, and culture; a town of significant size and importance. 2 slang used as an intensive: The playing field was mud city after the big rain.
— ORIGIN Old French cite, from Latin civitas, from civis ‘citizen’.

Folk City is a creative endeavor I began in January 2010, combining various aspects of my life's work — as an artist, as a woman passionate about preserving the tradition of creating things by hand that are both useful and beautiful, and as a treasure hunter who loves the stories that vintage and antique curiosities hold.

Here in my Folk City shop, you'll find a unique collection of eclectic vintage items that have been used and loved in their previous lives, as well as a variety of one-of-a-kind handmade creations including fiber arts, letterpress, and herbal apothecary items.

In the years since I founded Folk City, its 'souvenirs' have been featured on websites and shipped to Etsy customers across the U.S. and around the globe — to Canada, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. My patrons include interior designers, Broadway theater props masters, gallery owners, magazine editors, photographers, ballerinas, beauty queens, musicians, painters, poets, lovers of vintage & handmade goodness — in other words. . . folks like you.

Thanks for visiting!
