Hello and welcome to Folly a Tet! Here you will find one of a kind felted art, accessories, and decor items. All pieces use Merino wool from the Prairies, and are inspired by my love of colour and nature. Custom orders are welcome!
I make felted art, accessories, and decor items, inspired by my love of nature and colour.
I began creating wearable pieces for myself years ago, when I was dissatisfied with what was available, and desired something more unique. Using recycled, vintage fabrics and found objects, my early work had a very retro feel. After receiving great feedback on what I had made for myself and friends, I decided to turn my hobby into a business. Folly a Tet was born, with the name chosen to honour the relationship between mental illness and creativity.
Felting came into the picture in 2013 when I was looking for a way to create soft, colourful beads to use in my work. I found that needle felting was the perfect solution; to this day, I use the technique to form sculptures, jewellery, and to make mobile parts. Upon realizing how versatile and magical the craft is, I was hooked. I then started experimenting with traditional, wet felting, and found my true passion.
I love working with fibre because it is meditative, physical, and requires a great intuitive skill. Felting is alchemy; it is turning fluffy, loose animal fibres into something with structure, and vast possibilities of texture. Combining layers of wool, flax, silk, and even beeswax will result in something that resembles a shell or a chunk of marble, but still feels ultra soft. I love this because as someone who struggles daily with mental health, I find soft textures extremely comforting.
My work is important to me, because it encompasses so much of what I value into something tangible that I can be proud of. I value sustainability, respecting animals and nature, creating unique pieces for people with unique sensibilities, and relishing in mixing colours and telling stories. My work is an extension of who I am.
My name is Carly, and I have been working with fiber for nearly 3 years. I love animals, nature, scary movies, and singing while I work. My bunny, Tot, is my constant companion.
I want to offer you not only a remarkable piece of wearable art, but shopping experience as well. Many pieces are ready to ship, and custom orders are always welcome. I truly believe that wearing something that is one of a kind and made with love will bring joy, confidence, and warm fuzzies to the wearer and the admirer.
