I love this ring! I think it's actually vintage Navajo silver and I've seen matching bracelets too. This was a great price and shipped fast. Thanks! Christy

Things that sparkle

When I was a kid, my parents had a weekly ritual of visiting the local summer flea market on Sunday mornings. One day, they came home with a mason jar full of vintage beads - Czech and Japanese glass, African trade beads, old buttons, and other fascinating bits and pieces. I was hooked! I spent weeks sorting through that jar and making jewelry. When school started, I sold what I'd made for extra snack money.

Fast forward twenty years and I'm still doing the same thing (though not only for candy and ice cream cones). I started my Etsy shop in 2007 after graduating from the Maryland Institue College of Art with a degree in Community Art. As a recent grad, I was poor and needed some extra income. But much like that first jar of beads, Etsy had me hooked from the beginning.

I draw inspiration for what I make from what I see, which is why I try to take my camera with me everywhere. In fact, photographing my finished pieces is one of my favorite parts of the Etsy process. The other part is hunting for beads and findings. I meticulously select my materials, my goal being to make something special that honors their charm and distinctiveness. That's why most finished pieces are one of a kind or limited edition.

All in all, I just really love things that sparkle. To find another big old mason jar full of valuable vintage beads is still a dream of mine. It's not the kind of thing that happens often and had I known as a kid what a rare find those beads were, I would have eaten fewer ice cream cones ;-)
