About

*Wing*Stone*Ephemera* :::Amulets to Protect and Portend::: Handmade in ABQ, NM, USA

Since the beginning of memory I have collected the ephemeral—those things that are bright against blue sky, dark earth; and perhaps a fragment of sparkling stone, or a moth wing for its soft luminescence will find itself tucked into the enlarging collection. It is only recently then that I have begun to string these collections together. My maternal grandparents were teeth-makers by trade and jewelers by hobby; my paternal grandfather was a watchmaker, so perhaps this is in my blood, this desire to create. Or perhaps it is that the collection has finally taken on a life of its own as the inanimate sometimes does. So I have done what I must; I have begun to untuck these odds and ends from their dark boxes.

Much of my jewelry features found natural elements, such as withered leaves and seeds, molted bird feathers, insect wings and other ephemera, displayed in upcycled Plexiglas. It also incorporates raw and uncut stones found on my adventures around New Mexico, including Luna druzy, Pecos diamond, and Sandia granite. The flora, fauna, and mineral are picked from Albuquerque sidewalks, Rio Grande beaches, and lost back roads. The Plexiglas is hand-cut, hand-sanded, and rescued from the scrap pile. It is all held together with elemental metals: solid copper, 925silver, brass, carbon steel. In a word, Found.

As with all art, my work defies easy description. It is sometimes architectural and reminiscent of specimens in a museum, with ephemera pressed between Plexiglas angles and fettered together by nuts and bolts; but at other times it is raw and elemental, with darkened and textured metal embracing uncut stones. I like to think that my work challenges our notion of what constitutes a gem, and recasts what may be considered precious by inviting us to examine the everyday in an elevated way. Ultimately, I am attempting to preserve the specimens of the desert southwest as strange and lovely heirloom jewelry.

Hello & Welcome to Found: in Albuquerque where every item is carefully and lovingly handmade. My plexiglass is recovered from the waste bins of plexiglass cutting and installation centers; the ephemera comes from Albuquerque sidewalks, desert expanses, and Rio Grande beaches. All specimens are humanely collected from deceased insects, or sustainable plant sources. They will show signs of a life lived beautifully. The jewelry at FoundinAlbuquerque challenges the concept of what a jewel can be.

For shipping to Canada, the UK, and Australia, the gift box with the item ships in a flat rate Priority Mail International postal box. All customs and import fees are the responsibility of the buyer. Actual value of items must be declared for tax purposes.

Most items will be shipped one to three days after payment has been received; custom design or made-to-order purchases may take up to two weeks to ship, but rush orders can be arranged.
Refunds and Exchanges
"No Questions Asked" refunds (minus shipping cost and processing fees) will be made within 7 days for items that are in new and unused condition with original packaging. Items lost or damaged in the mail will be refunded in full.

I cannot be responsible for damage caused by neglect, misuse, or abuse. My work is field tested and sturdy enough for normal daily wear. It is designed to be enjoyed, but it must be treated like art work.

Most stones used are all-natural, and untreated; please treat with care. Store acrylic-set specimens in a dry, dark place when not in use.

Do Not Immerse in Water. The bathroom is one of the worst places you can store any jewelry. Understand that perfumes, hair products, lotions, and other potions will alter the finish on acrylic, metal, and stones.

To clean acrylic, wipe with a dry microfiber cloth. Metal will continue to patina and change over time with wear and use. Buff with a dry, clean kitchen scrubbing pad for a matte finish, or polish with a silver polishing cloth for a brighter shine if desired.

Most importantly, jewelry should be the last thing you put on, and the first thing you take off.

If, despite all these recommendations, you still think you received a defective or damaged product, please contact me with the details. I will require photos and a description of the circumstances of the item's failure. If the product is deemed defective, you will recieve a full refund upon my receipt of the defective product and its original packaging.

Repairs for damage caused by neglect, misuse, or abuse, will be considered on a case by case basis, and may be subject to additional fees and shipping costs.
