Leslie's work just speaks to me... each work has its own voice & character, and I feel the quiet mysteries, bygone truths, and transformative beauty and decay that are presented with such a deft hand. I am privileged to own 2 of her works, and they both are treasures.

About

About Foundturtle

When I am making art, I enter into place in my mind that doesn't account for time and space. It is like a physical working meditation and even though I am a very "down to earth" kind of person, the experience I have making art can only be described as mystical. My training is in printmaking, but I have found a great deal of joy creating assemblage art through found objects, wood scraps, and encaustic medium.

Many people have asked me about the name Foundturtle. It is short for Foundturtle Art Emporium. When I was in graduate school I had a profound dream about a very large turtle. Coincidentally, I also was taking a course in Jungian Dream Symbology at the team. Using the course as a basis for analysis I discovered that for me the symbol of the giant turtle was very important to my psyche, especially in terms of my art major and thinking about my future as an exhibiting artist. Several years later, when we bought our first home (and where I established my studio) I cleaned out a window well and found the shell of a turtle. Between the profound dream years earlier and the beauty of this shell the name came to me, "Foundturtle Art Emporium". It is entirely appropriate now that most of my work features found objects!

I hold an MFA in Printmaking from the University of South Dakota and a BS in Drawing/Printmaking through the University Honors Program at Portland State University. I exhibit my work natioinally and internationally, and have been honored to receive several awards in various art competitions.
