About FoveaWorks

On Etsy since 2017

Fovea Works has a vision!

Hilary is a maker generalist who works primarily with epoxy and UV resin, and has experimented with all manner of toys, found objects, flora and fauna in its protective encasement. Scouting for beautiful objects to preserve and showcase in the resin is a constant pursuit. Incidentally, osteology, beetle-cleaning, and taxidermy have come on the scene as well.

The fovea is a pit in the retina of the eye where visual acuity is highest and is responsible for hyperfocusing. This is illustrative of Hilary’s propensity for becoming fascinated with new techniques and noticing the beauty in the overlooked (also, she's neurodivergent). She likes to use weeds, rags, invasive species and discarded bones in her art. Many pieces are one-of-a-kind.

Fovea Works is honored to work with you if you wish to make a keepsake or memento mori piece of jewelry to memorialize your passed loved ones (four or two-legged). Please do not hesitate to send a message my way if you have any ideas or questions.

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging

I use recycled packaging. Padded envelopes are generally new but boxes are ALWAYS reused from shipments to my day job. I do gift wrapping, so the contents will be nicely wrapped but the outside box might not be brand new.

Where do you get your bones?

I live in St. Paul, Minnesota and find and process many of the bones that I use myself. I find animals that have been killed by predators or died naturally and clean/whiten them myself. For other bones, I get my supply at Native American craft suppliers in the Twin Cities, and local oddities and curiosities shops.

Sizing details

I can usually resize chain pieces upon request. Please send me a conversation before or after your purchase with the measurement you need it changed to and I will let you know if it can be done.

Can you switch earring hooks out to nonmetal or niobium?

Yes I can. Please contact me prior to purchasing a piece and I will let you know if it will affect the price. I also will coat any earring hooks with Protecta Clear upon request for free.

Do you do repairs on your jewelry?

Most of my pieces of jewelry are one-of-a-kind and have possibly only been made one time. I am always learning and perfecting things such as which adhesives work best, techniques for drilling through bone without causing structural damage, strong wire-wrapping and reinforcement, and using the best suppliers I can find for high-quality components in my jewelry. This might mean that an older piece can be updated or improved upon if something has failed in it or it's not wearing well. If you need a piece of your jewelry repaired, I would be happy to help you get your jewelry in stellar condition again. I will be as accomodating as possible with covering your shipping costs and providing replacement or improved parts. Please message me!

Epoxy Resin jewelry care

All clear epoxy resins are UV sensitive and SHOULD NOT be stored in direct sunlight when not being worn. Too much UV exposure will cause the resin to tint slightly yellow over time. It can also bleach out any delicate floral material in the resin. Please keep your clear resin pieces out of direct sunlight to keep them vibrant and clear for years to come.

Sterling Silver Jewelry care

Sterling Silver is a high-quality alloy that will tarnish under certain conditions including exposure to air! Wearing your Sterling Silver jewelry helps clean it and keep it shiny, but cosmetics, chemicals, salt water, etc will encourage tarnishing. Tarnished Sterling Silver can easily be cleaned with a microfiber polishing cloth. Please keep in mind that shell, coral, or bone material should not be exposed to chemical metal cleaners if you choose to go that route with cleaning your silver.

Keeping your Sterling Silver jewelry items in an airtight container will help prevent tarnishing.
