Cremation Bead Process

Thank you so much for your interest in my beads. I am thrilled that you like my work. I'm so very sorry that your companion animal has passed away. I would be very honored to make beads for you.

If you would like Cremation Jewelry with Human Cremains you will need to Email me at www.frecklepatchglass @ aol.com. Etsy does not allow any orders involving the use or shipment of human cremains.
The process is very simple.

As soon as we come to an agreement about exactly what you want made, and make a purchase, I will send you a kit with everything you will need to safely & legally ship a very small amount,(about 1/2 tsp.) of your loved ones ashes to me.

In the kit you will receive: instructions, as well as an addressed padded USPS Priority Express Mail envelope, with USPS cremated remains stickers, a small labeled plastic jar, in a zip-lock type baggie, and a small scoop spoon for the cremains.

*****IMPORTANT information about changes in the USPS shipping laws. As of January 2014 all packages containing Cremated Remains MUST be properly labeled with a USPS cremated remains sticker and shipped via Priority Express Mail (your kit will include an addressed Priority Express padded flat rate envelope with the stickers already attached) please add signature confirmation.
Because of these changes my Shipping fee will have to be increased. As will your cost to ship your kit back to me. Your cost for shipping the kit to me will be approx. $22

You will also need to think about whether you want the ashes to be visible, under transparent glass, or hidden from view inside the bead under opaque glass. What type of shape, pattern, color scheme, and style you want, as well as the approximate size of the bead/beads you would like.

Once I receive the cremains I will make the beads individually, by melting glass with a torch, and winding it onto a mandrel. During he melting and forming of the bead I incorporate the cremains into the hot glass. the cremains become part of the glass. If you've never seen Lampworking in person, you might want to look at one of the many YouTube videos available. Like this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMOravnFCEg
Below are photos of me making beads at the torch.

The process will take me anywhere form 3-6 weeks. Usually somewhere in between. But if you have a specific date I can try to accommodate you, although I can't always promise.

Any remaining cremains will be returned to you along with your piece..

I hope that answers your questions satisfactorily.

If you are interested in having custom/personalized jewelry made for you using the cremains beads, I would recommend visiting my memorial jewelry shop at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/rememberthem

I also have a main shop with a lot of different jewelry styles at;
http://www.etsy.com/shop/frecklepatchdesign

Again Thank you so much for messaging me. If you feel more comfortable talking live, let me know. We can schedule a phone conversation.

Warm Regards,

About

A life without FAMILY and ART is a life I don't want to live

My belief is that "anything worth doing, is worth doing well." I have worked very hard to provide you with unique, quality pieces. All of my pieces are authentically handcrafted and designed by me using simple hand tools and quality materials. I even make all of my own findings( ear wires, clasps, connectors, etc).

I am a Self Representing Artist/ SRAJD # 3662.

I started making jewelry about 24 years ago. As the mother of a very large family I could never afford the kind of handmade jewelry I loved, so.... seeing as I am a very creative, artistic person I set out to teach myself to make my own, and sell enough to keep me in supplies. At first I just assembled pre-made components. I was really frustrated with the selection of findings available to me and the fact that I kept loosing bracelets and necklaces made with toggle clasps. Well... out of sheer frustration at first, I set out to design at clasp out of wire that was both functional and attractive. that was IT I was HOOKED. I have fallen deeply in love with wire and have been creating wire based jewelry for over 15 years. My selling has been sort of hit and miss due to life's little and huge hiccups. But now that my 7 children are getting older I am hitting it hard and going for it.

My theory is that if I can make it myself I do. So I never buy pre-made findings and components. I just buy wire, sheet metal, fine chain ( I can't make) and beads. I make everything else. It is very important to me to keep my work authentic. There is just something so satisfying about making it all myself. I don't ever want that to change.

In February 2013 I added a new craft to my list of skills. I am now also making lampwork/flameworked glass beads. I use a very hot torch to melt and form glass into beautiful beads.
