Announcement    It's been 11 months and 11 days. It's time to re-open.

For now I have renewed listings that are still hanging around. Over the next few days I will be adding deep discounts and photos of new items I've sewn over this time. I hope to clear out a lot of inventory over the next 2 months because I'm planning a move to a new city where I will restart my life.

11 months and 11 days ago my life partner passed away.

This was much different than my mother who transitioned 6 months earler. This man was my chosen partner. He was my heart. I had forgotten how deeply the bond ran until the end was near. I was completely heartbroken. He encouraged me like no one else to pursue this dream of mine. He's partly responsible for my career and I really wonder if it would have happened at all without him.

11:11 is the time to begin. It's a time to send out a wish. To renew. A blank slate.
I spent the fall and winter deep in my heart and soul, finding closure. I honored him and what we made together.

Now I hope to clear out the old before moving into the new. Photos and descriptions need to be done before they can be presented in the shop, so please check back. If you follow Free Spirit Sewing on Facebook, I will post new additions there.
At the same time I am working on a stand alone site: Free Spirit Sewing Studio and it will be a dot com. That will be announced on FB as well when I make the name adjustment.
I'm sorry that I cannot accept custom orders at this time.

I am grateful, thankful, and blessed for your continued support that feeds this creative energy and makes this humble seamstress life possible.
Thank you <3

My Story

I'm Barbara and I own and operate FSSS all on my own from design concept to shipping it out. I'll get a little bit of help from my adult kids by way of dropping off packages or making me dinner once in a while, so I can keep working. :)

Creative pursuits of painting, hand sewing, embroidery, costume making, quilt making, wood working, jewelry making, recycling and upcycling have all come together over about 40 years to form my particular style of designing and making you see in my shop today.

I have been working out of my home studio and running an online shop since 2008. I offer classes and workshops to guide DIYers in projects and teach unique skills. During the warmer months I hit the road and attend music festivals where my shop comes to life in 200 square feet for about 3 days at a time.

I believe so strongly that the Universe conspires to put opportunities in our paths that we most deeply feel and pursue. I have been very fortunate to recognize and take full advantage of this. I live my dream with passion and belief. I'm grateful for people like you who love my creations. Your purchase feeds that energy and provides me the means to live this humble seamstress life.

Thank you!

I tell everyone who is looking for their most fulfilling life: Follow your curiosity! Keep doing what you most love. Have a dream. Believe in it. Work your ass off- which will not feel as much like work as it does purpose.
