About freshieandzero

Sales 4,267
On Etsy since 2006

I've been making and selling jewelry since elementary school, but it wasn't until after college that I tried my hand at making a career of it.

I started making jewelry when I was about 10 or 11 – I used "Friendly Plastic," a very popular crafting material of the 80's – and made earrings, which I peddled up and down my street out of my Caboodle for $3-$5 a pair. I even sold my jewelry to a local boutique!

I studied art in college and upon graduating, I thought the only way to make a living off of art was to paint, and I just didn't have the passion for painting. I worked in art galleries and tried being a sales rep for a couple of years. I started making jewelry again on the side for extra money while I was working two jobs in 2001. After a few years as my side business grew, I decided there was no time like the present to take my jewelry-making hobby to the next level. I applied to craft shows, developed a website, and rigorously worked to improve my jewelry. By listening to what customers liked and disliked at craft shows, I was really able to tweak my line and make it better.

Fast forward a few years later, I quit my job in May 2008 and have done jewelry full time ever since. I've traveled to countless craft shows (including 9 Renegade Craft Fairs), developed my wholesale business, got married, had two babies and am loving every crazy busy minute! I work in a little studio in downtown Nashville with a few lovely assistants. Together we make jewelry, listen to music, and chit chat the day away.
