Welcome to the Freshwater Studio Shop!

All items you see in the shop are handmade by me, Kimberly, the owner of Freshwater Studio. Because of the handmade nature of all of our shop's offerings, no two items are exactly the same, making each one entirely unique. That's the beauty of handmade, artisan products!

HONORING MY ANCESTORS: The shop name Freshwater Studio is an homage to my Native American heritage and central Massachusetts roots. I come from Nipmuc country, or the “Freshwater Place,” and I like to reflect that cultural influence in the natural soaps and paper crafts that I offer in the shop. Through my soap making I'm able to highlight ingredients - oils, clays, botanicals, or butters, that were important to my ancestors. I also like to source these ingredients locally whenever possible! My native language cards allow me to participate in the reclaiming of the language of my ancestors, which was lost over centuries of colonization and assimilation.

ABOUT OUR CARDS: All of our cards are made using high quality, heavy weight card stock or watercolor paper. Each card also comes with a matching envelope.

ABOUT OUR SOAPS & BATH PRODUCTS: We sell small batch cold process soap, which means all soaps contain ingredients you can actually pronounce (!) that come from natural sources. This allows us to maintain full control over all of the skin-loving ingredients that go into each batch. Each bar cures for at least 4-6 weeks before it is available for purchase, ensuring that you get a harder bar that will last as long as possible.

INGREDIENTS: As mentioned, we use natural, nourishing ingredients in all of our soaps. Some soaps contain special ingredients and provide different skin benefits. As such, all ingredients are listed (in order of weight) in each shop listing. Additionally, we've made a conscious and ethical decision not to use palm oil in our soaps unless we can be sure it is from a sustainable source. Among the other oils we use (like coconut and olive oils) our new recipe incorporates tallow, a traditional soap making ingredient. Tallow works wonders in providing a rich lather and makes a nice, hard bar of soap. Substituting palm oil with tallow is an environmentally sound choice. By using what is otherwise a waste product from animal meat production (and sourcing it locally when we can) we are doing our part to reduce that environmental waste and to honor the life of the animal by putting all parts of it to use.

We work hard to make sure that our soaps are free of phthalates, parabens, sulfates and artificial glycols.

CARING FOR YOUR SOAP: Drying your soap between uses means it will last longer. Storing your soap in a soap dish that allows water to drain out is your best bet for a longer lasting soap!

CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY: CARE: Earrings woven together with string and glass beads are inherently delicate. Please handle your earrings with care. Raw brass, copper and other earring findings will tarnish naturally, brass or jewelry polish can be used periodically to remove patina and keep your earrings looking like new. All earring wires and findings are nickel-free.

All shop items are hand made in a safe, smoke-free environment.
