About

A Journey Through Junk

My little space began back in 2009 with some encouragement from a kindred DIY spirit.
After several years of trial and error crafting for my own home, I began to feel like I was finally moving out of the "crawling" stage of it all. Ideas were coming more easily, my skill had increased, I was addicted to junking and I was finally brave enough to use a drill! My husband taught me how to use a circular saw and it was like being handed INDEPENDENCE! I didn't have to wait on someone else to do the things I was intimidated by.

However, my ideas were outgrowing my home. I began to feel like a hoarder and somewhat OCD. When my friend asked me if I had ever heard of etsy (way back in 2009), I hadn't. Seeing that getting started with etsy involved very little investment and was pretty user friendly, I pushed through some of the intimidation and the inevitable worst case scenario "What if no one likes my stuff?" and started by listing 3 items.

My ideas, skill, successes and failures are all represented in this one little world. I can look
through them and just seeing a certain item or backdrop will remind me of what was happening in my personal life during that season. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 17 years. I did not graduate college, I have no particular trade skill and have often wondered what I would do if something drastically changed in my circumstances. This journey, through junk, and creating a little space for myself has allowed me to hone some artistic skill, generate some income and explore other opportunities.

I don't have a garage or sacred work space, I clutter up my family room with paint and projects right in the midst of my kids playing the Wii, doing homework or watching movies. It's not practical, but it's my space and I make it work.

I've had many failures from mis-labeled packages to poorly managed time and I am learning from them all. This little journey is a gift that I share with my dad who is irreplaceable in helping me with projects and all of the encouragement from my family has kept me from shutting down a time or two when I just haven't been sure if I should keep going. I'm grateful that I have.

Unique well-made pieces and fair pricing are important to me. Nothing irritates me more in this little world than price gouging. I know what I put into a piece, what I need out of it and that's all there is to it. I hope my customers are able to feel good about what they purchase from me.

I began dabbling in DIY projects out of necessity as a newlywed (LONG ago). It became a passion sparking a trip to faux painting school, constantly evolving decor, trial and error and eventually a shop. Hard work and fair pricing are important to me.

WELCOME to A Weathered Home. I am a one woman show backed by a supportive family and DIY father who is my handyman. I am continuing to hone my skills, provide unique and quality home goods at reasonable prices, utilizing as many "pre-loved" supplies as possible and learning to think further outside of the mainstream process to
offer pieces that are both beautiful and functional.

My own home reflects a journey from family cast offs, to one that captures the spirit of reusing and repurposing to reflect something welcoming, beautiful and reflective of my own personal style. I value the ideals of minimalism, though I am by no means a purist,
so things that mesh form and function are of the highest value to me. It is my desire
to reflect the value of things with history, character, simplicity, beauty and usefulness
in my offerings to you.
