Very well made, beautiful batik designs, and quite bright when using the supplied bulbs. The lamps were much heavier than I anticipated, in a good way—nice and solid. I had seen a color/design combination that was no longer available, but the artist quickly created a new set for me. He shipped them quickly, and they were well-packaged to ensure they survived the trip unblemished. We're very happy with these lamps! Highly recommended!

Making functional art pieces is my way of embracing the beauty of design in objects that we use in our everyday lives.

funyhed BATIK (pronounced “funny head“)

Batik is a resist dye process that involves applying hot wax to fabric and immersing it in dye. This process can be repeated with multiple layers of wax and dye to create intricate and stunning effects. The fine lines and beautiful crackle details are created by tiny fractures in the wax during the dying process.

My fascination with the batik process stems from the balance of control vs. chaos. The unexpected results and accidents provide spontaneity and create an ongoing sense of experimentation.

My work in batik is a combination of traditional techniques, modern materials, and nontraditional imagery. This contrast of old mixed with new creates a result that encompasses my love for the environment, other cultures, and the importance I place on art and its influence on our lives.

Eric Rasmussen received a B.A. from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. (1999) with a focus in drawing and printmaking. He now works in his home studio in central Massachusetts.
