I've had a lifelong affinity for color: my parents banned me from using markers after bath time as a kid because of my propensity for giving myself fluorescent skin. Fast forward twenty-some years and not much has changed. Most days you can still find me with blue or purple or yellow tinged fingers after a day of dyeing yarn (but now Mom and Dad can't force me to wash it off!).
I started Heartland Yarn Company after graduating from college with a degree in Fibers, my love of color still intact. I am passionate about producing high-quality yarns with gorgeous color--and doing it the natural way. I choose to use only natural dyes (dye sources that come from nature, like leaves, wood, and even bugs) in my business, preferring the history and tradition of natural dyeing, the safety of its ingredients, and the art of drawing beautiful hues out of seemingly ordinary materials.
