My seasonal shows throughout the Summer 2021 will be listed here! As we move thru Summer, I'll list Fall and Christmas shows where possible.

Local shows will have local pricing (shipping, photographing and listing doubles the time it takes for each order) hence online prices are higher.

✿ Follow me to see new listings as they come up! Normally, I sell most items at LIVE shows but I am occasionally listing sets online. Between taking photos, measuring, packing, etc. Selling sets is a way to accommodate the sheer number of leaves I create. I sell most pieces at shows with very few left over. I haven't been selling larger pieces on Etsy due to "free shipping" which can be pricey with larger pieces (not because of weight but "dimensional weight" which is the shipping companies charging for each square inch a package takes up in a truck or plane). I'll attempt to list some larger items (that still fit in USPS flat rate boxes) later in July.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
--->>IF YOU ARE LOCAL, come to a show for best prices and selection. I usually bring 60-100 (larger shows may have 150+) small leaves to provide the best selection. Leaf types, colors and sizes change with every single show.
~Each piece is cast from a LIVE leaf, hand-painted, stands on a pole & each is truly one-of-a-kind.
If you see a leaf you like, buy it. It is very difficult to create an identical leaf and sometimes just impossible. Every item is one of a kind (cast with a leaf used once and hand-painted with colors chosen at whim)!
☞ SHIPPING:
All shipping rates are usually averaged for delivery to FURTHEST East coast destinations. FREE shipping is not really doable with these items but I try to combine the costs into a package deal where possible. Deliveries to say Miami, Florida will cost more than New York. If you are in a rural location, Fedex will add a surcharge up to $4-5. Home delivery surcharges are usually $3-5 each package.
Shipping rates include USPS/Fedex charges as well as sometimes purchasing boxes. Clean packing material is gathered throughout the year for recycling from local stores.
☞ LOCAL DELIVERIES:
I do not have an actual "studio" to show pieces set up. I meet clients or deliver instead. I will refund shipping (back onto your credit card or, in cash) minus a delivery fee. Contact me for details.
☞ LOOK AT MY REVIEWS-Colors are even prettier in person & shipping is fast! Bear in mind that these are NOT flat pieces. As a result, I charge for real shipping costs and safest packing possible. Shipping rates nowadays are based on "dimensional weight" which is the value of every square inch the whole box occupies on the truck. Weight is no longer the main issue. Most of my pieces weigh between 2-10 pounds (meaning the smallest to average large pieces). They are well crafted and sealed for actual use in the garden.
☞ LEAF AVAILABILITY:
I work nearly a year in advance to carry sufficient stock. Some years (and leaf types/sizes) may be more prolific and others not. If you are interested in a leaf, let me know as I may have something sitting in inventory for the last 8 years (just waiting for someone to ask)!
☞ CUSTOM AND RESERVED ORDERS
If you have a favorite leaf, coloration, etc. please ask. I have lots of leaves and may have the leaf size you want. You tell me the type, size, colors and I'll let you know if it's possible. I sell all year round and ship all over the U.S.
Custom and specialty items (3 foot and wider leaves or fountains) must be fit in between the regular production so contact me early in the season for best leaf availability.
☞ FEEDBACK / REVIEWS:
I consider feedback (or reviews) on each purchase to be VERY important. I take a lot of time creating these pieces, packing carefully and shipping them fast, please take the time to provide a review on your purchase. Reviews can only be left for 60 days after shipping, after that the ability to do so is closed.
For more information on how to leave an Etsy Review go to this link: https://www.etsy.com/help/article/102?ref=help_search_result.
☞ ALTERNATE PAYMENT OPTIONS:
Please convo me. I will gladly accept checks (given time for clearance and will mark your item RESERVED while your check is processing).
☞ AVAILABLE "GIANT" PIECES:
I have multiple extra-large, unpainted pieces (averaging 4 feet or wider) which are not brought to local shows (due to size/weight): gunnera, tetrapanax, japanese butterbur and others... Contact me if you are interested in these for water features, garden focal pieces or altars, etc.
☞ COLORS:
I do not use set color schemes but instead try to invent new color combos all the time. If you'd like a particular set of colors let me know as I may've even done it once before! Below is the link to my Pinterest page where I have 700+ leaves listed (though I've created well over 10,000 in the past 10+ years).
!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE NOTE I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SELL, or NOT sell, to various persons. I have invested a lot of time and money isolating the products and processes to make my items and in some cases I may choose not to share with competing interests. In such cases, I will promptly cancel the transaction and refund your money.
All of my pieces are handmade by me and photos of them in part or full are my property. Any use of those images whether solo or in compilation images will be pursued for copyright violation (I've had several folks try using my images for their own "how-to" articles). Misuse will be pursued across any venues in which they are found.
About gardenwhimsies
Sales 1,112
On Etsy since 2009
Unique birdbaths, feeders and sculptures that mimic the textures and colors of plants, flowers and butterflies using LIVE leaves.
Twelve years ago I saw an unpainted leaf casting and was intrigued. A leaf cast involves capturing the intricate vein detail from a LIVE leaf into cement and creating a "fossil" or stone replica.
I learned everything I could and began experimenting. (Reading about cement is not exciting but suggested.) Within 4 months, I had cast 400 leaves ranging from 4 inches to 4 feet in size and using over 60 different types of leaves.
To satiate my craving for various leaf types, I met gardeners from all over town and traded gift cards for the fruits of their green thumbs. I stopped when the snow arrived a week before Thanksgiving.
Since then I have cast thousands of leaves. Unlike the first leaf I saw which was unpainted, I finish my pieces in variety of natural and iridescent looks. Each piece is entirely different in shape, size, curvature and colors.
In 2011, I started numbering each leaf to ensure I could send precisely the leaf you see in the listing images. This also enabled me to create custom, or complimentary, matching pieces on demand as every piece is photographed and cataloged.
A few years ago, I narrowed my focus to birdbaths, feeders and garden art including planters and pond drippers. The majority of my garden items are designed to stand above the flowers and shrubs so they can both add color and function to any garden. They are designed and sealed SPECIFICALLY to hold water or bird food.
My largest is a 6 foot wide Gunnera leaf (the plant is nicknamed "Dinosaur Food" since a single leaf grows to 9 or 10 feet wide). Jorge (as I call him) has been cast in white cement and is, in essence, my white elephant.
I do not teach classes but instead create many pieces so each person can find something perfect for their garden. I usually bring 70-100 pieces to every show which during the gardening season. To provide that variety involves packing, toting and displaying 400 pounds or so at every show.
My items are made from actual concrete (with special additives). This makes my product stronger versus using pricey plaster-based products which cast intricate detail but chip easily and do not work well with standing water.
All pieces are measured straight across the top from edge to edge (not into the bowl and up again - but the largest exterior dimensions to fit in a box). Over a thousand pieces have been sold and shipped on Etsy, yet only 8 pieces have been broken!
If I can create something special for an anniversary, housewarming or other special event please let me know. I hope to inspire a love of nature everywhere.
For more ideas on finishes available please contact me so we can go over the many possibilities and I can direct you to pieces I've done in the past!
