Virginia was living the glamorous life as a costume designer and supervisor in the film and television industry but just didn't feel truly fulfilled. A long-time maker of all things, she knew there had to be something she could do that combined her love of making, her entrepreneurial spirit, and her background in education. And gather here was born...
We opened our brick and mortar shop in February 2011 and have been lucky enough to call our first year in business a success. We are a fabric and yarn shop that specializes in high-quality natural fibers and we proudly serve our community sharing expert advice in sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, needle-felting and quilting.
We launched our Etsy shop so we could share some of the amazing products we carry with those folks outside of Cambridge. Not only do we list fabrics and yarns but we also post our specialty products like locally silk-screened t-shirts and bags featuring the work of local crafty geniuses.
gather here employs eight amazing crafters that specialize in various fiber crafts. Every single one of them knows their way around a sewing machine, has wielded knitting needles and a crochet hook and can personalize a quilt with some sweet hand embroidery. We each have a craft we love more than any other but just can't help but dabble in the others when we're so fortunate to work in a rainbow of fiber.
The products we carry are individually selected by Virginia. She has dedicated a large portion of our inventory to organic fabrics and fibers. From familiar manufacturers like Cloud 9 and Debbie Bliss to lesser known names like ten14 textiles and Pickering, we are committed to offering the community some of the finest sustainable products available. We believe well-made, well-designed fibers and notions are always worth purchasing and will only add to anything you make.
At the end of the day, gather here is a community of makers and we really love what we do. We want to share our commitment to quality materials by stocking our Etsy shop with an edited selection of the awesome products we carry. And we really hope that by being here, we are encouraging each of you to "make something."
