Announcement   *April 2017 Update*

I have removed the 'knot' in my head - about selling antique Chinese jewellery to a Western/worldwide audience, online :P

I no longer curate; I let the jewellery decide its audience in a more democratic fashion.

I hope this is a good decision, more fearless, inclusive, and fun (there's no fun in selling without fun!).

*******
For an extra SGD65 (USD45), you can now include a gemstone report upgrade (https://www.etsy.com/listing/514081019/) to your purchase. We test all our items for gold purity and gemstone identities, but we have added this service as an assurance to international shoppers. For more information, please see our FAQ section at the bottom of each listing.

*******
We've added many high karat gold hoops, collected over the years, for their simplicity and soulfulness in traditional hoops worn by women everywhere. And some men too!

*******
We have recently gotten a special DHL account, which will allow us to offer DHL worldwide shipping to all, at a wonderful rate!

For SGD45 (approx. USD32), DHL Express Worldwide will deliver your purchases OVERNIGHT. Hurrah for planes and advanced logistics! (This service used to be SGD60, approximately USD45.)

If you live in Australia or New Zealand, the rate is even better at SGD30 (approx. AUD29).

Now shoppers who've never ordered from outside the US (etc) would have to worry less about international shipping. Many shoppers already know how overnight shipping makes a big difference to the time waiting for a package. It's almost too good to be true, but we've been working hard for this :D

This price is applicable for the US, Canada and Europe, but if you live somewhere else, please get in touch with us for an accurate shipping quote.

Because many of the items we sell are above SGD1000 (USD700), we want as much security and assurance as possible. It is a greater disappointment for us when we cannot ship on time and customers worry.

I hope this makes shopping with us more enjoyable, not just for this one time but for all your memorable occasions.

And LAYAWAY is available :P

These delicate pieces are smaller than I thought they would be, but I am still absolutely pleased with them. The gold is that rich hue one expects from 22k, and the design is unique yet everyday-style wearable. I am so excited to add these to the collection in my ears!

About

More emotion is better than less.

VIEW I:

As a bee gathering nectar does not harm or disturb the colour and the fragrance of the flower; so do the wise move through the world.

From 'A Dhammapada For Contemplation'

***

VIEW II:

One piece of jewellery can never equal a whole stack of memories.

But one little hope frames the flame.

The fire in small things?

A big thing.

***

VIEW III:

Jewellery is almost separable from intention.

It crystallizes some big ideas into a pinhole.

Doubt the motive, not the jewel.

***

We are bench jewellers. We are artists. We are also businesswomen.

Before jewellery we have worked with clothing, lamps, miniatures, objets d'art and the common thread through all our work is history, curiosity, and hard work.

We source stones and we get stones cut. We build our own jewellery; we draw, we forge; we do not cast.

As antique and vintage jewellers, we are hardly experts but we are nonplussed, knowledgeable and pedantic, in that order.

In our other life, we juggle craftsmanship and gemstones hopefully with an art.

Yet our love stays with the memories that elude us. Jewellery is only one part.

***

May we see with new eyes
Each old thing,
Each known thing.

***

How do we know a person we'll not meet?
Music.

There are songs of the moment and there are those we keep returning to.

Avalon, Roxy Music
Gypsy, Fleetwood Mac
Slow Hand, The Pointer Sisters
Heartbreak Kid, Icehouse
Crazy, Icehouse
No Promises, Icehouse
Wild is the Wind, David Bowie
The Magnetic Fields
Bruce Springsteen
Bee Gees
Chromatics
Fleet Foxes
Swim Deep
Richard Hawley
Vince Guaraldi

Of course I'm in this to hustle but 'At the back-end of time Leaf-fall of lives, dwindling of the great tree To the acorn of forests, returning To the nothing of all that is, The season, the leaves, the loves, Song to its source, soul to its star..'

You can make 2 payments over 6 weeks.

> SGD1000 (USD720):

Gold Testing and Gemstone Certification

We test every jewelry item for gold purity and gemstone identity.

For gold, we use the GemOro Auracle tester.

For gemstones, we work with an independent gemologist (GIA Alumni Association) and jewelry appraiser.

If you wish to include gemstone certification papers with your purchase, you can add our gemstone report upgrade (https://www.etsy.com/sg-en/listing/514081019/) to your cart for an additional fee of SGD65 (approximately USD45).

This service will require an additional 1-2 days to process.

Please note that the gemstone report is not necessary with your purchase.

We include this professional service as an assurance to international shoppers, just as one would pay for a shipping upgrade.

We do not profit from this service :)

Returns

We have a hassle-free, no-questions-asked return policy.

Sellers are shoppers too. It's not a nice feeling to be stuck with something you don't like, especially jewellery.

If the item is returned to us within the stipulated time period and in the condition that we sent it, all is good.

Resizing rings

We can resize most rings at no extra charge.

We only charge when we upsize rings by two sizes and above. We charge approximately SGD70 (USD50) for upsizing, but may increase this fee by a little depending on the ring size and complexity of the job.

Measuring your ring size

1. Cut a thin strip of paper.

2. Wrap it around your finger. Make sure the paper is below your finger joint and close to your knuckle.

3. Mark the area where the strip meets.

4. Use a ruler to measure the length.

5. Use the following measurements as a guide to find out your ring size.

4.0: 46.68mm
4.25: 47.25mm
4.50: 47.97mm
4.75: 48.79mm

5.50: 50.58mm
5.75: 51.21mm
6.0: 51.87mm

6.50: 53.16mm

Gift wrapping and packaging

We like to think that we are the best gift wrappers in Singapore. We don't turn our items into a Japanese flower arrangement but the recipients of our items are always surprised.

All our items are gift ready before we ship them out. If you have a particular idea in mind, please feel free to let us know.

Repairs

We take care of every item we sell for life. If you damage your item, and you can't find anyone locally to fix it, get in touch with us. Send the item back and we will fix it for you. We may or may not charge a service fee, depending on how much work there is to be done.

We offer this service hardly to make money. We offer this service because of the nature of work we do. Many pieces of antique jewellery are not serviced properly in modern jewellery stores (unless you have a personal relationship with the store owners).

What we do for our local customers, we offer to our international customers. We hope this is our added advantage :)

FOR SHOPPERS IN SINGAPORE

If you see this, it means you have come to us through Etsy. We would like to uphold professional ethics. Please make your purchase through Etsy.

However, you are welcome to pick up your item/s in store. Just convo us! We appreciate your understanding in this.

How We Distinguish 'Antique' and 'Vintage'

There isn't a fixed rule for this. For us, we date 'antique' as pre-WWII and 'vintage' as post-WWII.

This is a general guide, as many sellers and observers date jewellery between the two wars differently.

Another general rule is that if we can see clear signs of production and lesser of craftsmanship, we are less inclined to say that something is 'antique'.

Earlier vintage pieces were finished both by hand and machines. Subsequently, as technology became more prevalent in jewellery craft, we have fewer problems identifying a jewellery piece as 'vintage'.

April 2017: As a "gem gardener" and jeweller working at the Equator, we have our own ruminations. We are working on a comprehensive article on our main website. Stay tuned!
