Creating Functional Art permits me to meld my grandest ideals. By recycling reclaimed textiles into vital, relevant, daily use products, I am conserving useful materials and landfill space by continuing the generational matriarchal legacy bestowed upon me by my Grandmother and Mother.

My early educational instruction came at my Grandmother’s knees. Teaching me more than design and construction, she shared the art of her Mother, an oral history of my heritage and the exploits of her youth. Steadfastly engrossed in her stories of Native American migration and assimilation, life during the Great Depression and her dreams and wishes for my life, I apply more than just the mechanics she taught me. Her influence is apparent in my designs.

“…the diligent make use of everything they find” was a lesson instilled in me by my Mother. Living a “green” life may be a new premise to some, but it was a necessity throughout my childhood. Bigger than “hand me downs” and leftovers for dinner, clothing was reworked instead of discarded, towels became hand cloths that became dish rags.

Breathing new life into reclaimed textiles… finding usefulness in the discarded as did my Mother by creating beautiful folk art pieces in the manner of my Grandmother. Green is not new – “the diligent make good use of all they find”.
