Announcement   Welcome to Gertrud's ArtWear! The pieces on these pages are handmade in Colorado by Gertrud's ArtWear out of the finest materials available, using traditional techniques. They are individual works of art intended for use in daily life. Each piece is crafted for comfort, beauty, durability, and enjoyment. Each artisan is committed to a functional beauty in both composition and design.

We chose the finest art yarns for softness, durability, and color. The felted wool items are knitted out the best Icelandic and American Wool, some of it hand-dyed by and artist in New Mexico.

All our pieces accentuate the beauty of the wearer. They are perfect for hikes, walks, and errands, as well as when skiing or snow shoeing. One even attended a presidential inauguration!

Wool is the greatest natural insulator in the world. It breathes and adjusts the temperature surrounding the person to body temperature. It is for this reason tha the slippers are so comfortable in room temperature, and keep the toes toasty even in that cold and drafty cabin. The hats, scarves and mittens are just right in moderate temperatures, and wonderfully warm in that winter storm.

There is still lanolin in the wool, so the felted wool pieces repel both moisture and dirt.

Your slippers, hats, and mittens will form to your feet, head, and hands, and be uniquely yours to enjoy for many years to come!

Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders are a significant part of our creations. Custom orders are priced in the same range as the listed pieces. Please contact us for the measurements/sizes and colors that you would like.

Please take careful note of the measurements and sizes of each listed piece, and make reasonably sure that the piece will fit the intended wearer.

Measure head circumference with a measuring tape at the widest part of the skull, and also the distance between the crown of the head to the place where you want the edge of the hat to sit when worn.

If you are unsure whether mittens and slippers will fit, send us a tracing of the hand, a shoe size/tracing of the foot of the intented wearer, and we will go from there to make sure the piece will be just right.

It is important to understand that each of the pieces is handmade and may look slightly different from the piece shown in the photo. It is impossible to hand make two exactly identical pieces, but this also part of the charm of wearing something so personal and unique.
