About

High -quality accurate reproductions of Civil War quilts.

My goal is to offer quilts like those stitched by our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, and introduce you to a small part of the history of American quilting. Over the years, many people have been drawn to Gettysburg to experience its rich Civl War history, and that is the basis of my creations for Gettysburg Quilts. No two of my quilts are the same, but each has the touch of its time.

One of my specialties is "Soldiers Quilts", based on the quilts that fathers, sons, and brothers on both sides of the fight carried into Civil War battlefields. They were stitched by groups of friends and family. Tucked behind a saddle or carried in a bedroll, these quilts symbolized a tie to home.

In addition, I also quilt more familiar patterns and incorporate these into children's,baby quilts, table runners and pillows.

Years ago when I was wishing I could quilt I found this photograph in a Civil War quilting book. I thought WOW, this lady looks like me. Get stitching. From this book came my love of and respect for the Civil War quilts and all quilts.

I use prewashed 100 percent cotton fabric. Thread is cotton. Batting is preshrunk cotton unless noted otherwise. Backing is a complementary print. Pieces are machine stitched as the originals were. The sewing machine was a new and welcome invention for quilters in the 1860's. Quilts are hand quilted with a 2"x2" "utility stitch.
