About

❉ FROM FANCY TO FUNKY - WE BRING YOU THE BEST IN VINTAGE ❉

❉ Each item in the The Getup Vintage is hand-selected, cleaned, and cared for - and one-of-a-kind! We concentrate on fancy and funky duds from the 1950's-1970's, but carry items as early as the 1920's and as late as the 1990's. It's all killer, no filler!
❉ The Getup is a socially responsible alternative to clothing and accessory consumption - and we promote recycling and reuse as a fashionable lifestyle choice. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in 2017 the United States alone produced upwards of 3.8 billion pounds of textile waste! Every purchase of vintage clothing is one item saved from a landfill - and if we all work together, that can go a long way!
❉ We have been 100% Woman-Owned and Operated since we opened our doors in 2005!
❉ Thank you for taking the time to read about who we are! If you're ever in Ann Arbor, Michigan, please come visit us at our brick-and-mortar shop! We're located at 215 S. State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 in the State Street District of downtown Ann Arbor.

Layaway is offered for all items over $100.00 USD. For all layaway purchases, the item is split into 2 payments:

ANN ARBOR ❉ STORE PICKUP

We're happy to offer local pickup to our Ann Arbor area customers! Most Etsy items are available for try-on at our State Street shop after they've been listed for about 2 weeks, with the exception of our more delicate / antique items. If you're interested in any of our listings, we're always happy to bring it to the store for you to try on - just convo us! We just need a heads up to bring to the shop if it's not there already.

If you would like to purchase the item before coming to the store, put in the code LOCALPICKUPA2 at checkout. Your item will then be waiting at the store for you to pick up the next day with no shipping charge!

DOMESTIC SHIPPING ❉ WITHIN THE UNITED STATES

We ship within the United States using Etsy Calculated Shipping! We ship within 1-2 business days of receiving your order. We ship in the US via USPS First Class, Priority Mail, and Priority Mail Express. Just choose your desired speed at checkout!

If you order multiple items, Etsy Calculated Shipping will automatically combine the shipping weights for a combined shipping price. And if there's ever a shipping overage in your favor, we will refund the difference to you!

If you need an item overnighted, we are happy to ship it same day via FedEx. Please just convo us before checkout and we will get you a custom shipping quote, as we do not have this in our regular checkout options.

INTERNATIONAL ❉ SHIPPING

We ship internationally using Etsy Calculated Shipping via USPS First Class International (does not come w/tracking) and USPS Priority International (comes w/tracking). If you would like additional insurance, convo us before checkout! We ship within 1-2 business days.

Seller is NOT responsible for customs fees, import taxes, VAT, or any duty taxes imposed on buyer by their country of residence. Falsifying customs declaration forms in order to help a buyer avoid these taxes and fees is against the law; we could receive $10,000 USD in fees and spend up to 5 years in prison. WE WILL NOT BREAK THE LAW; PLEASE DO NOT ASK US TO DO SO. Read more: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/13/305

VINTAGE ❉ CONDITION

All items are vintage and have been worn and loved, and we try our best to thoroughly represent the condition of the item. Most often they are discovered after being stored away in a closet for many years. Although we carefully inspect each garment to make sure you have the most accurate description possible, it is not uncommon for the clothing to have small imperfections. We rate each item 1-5 on a condition scale - see below for that information!

All garments are cleaned and mended prior to listing and you will receive a garment that is ready to wear. Please ask any questions you may have prior to checkout, as all items are sold as-is and all sales are final.

CONDITION ❉ SCALE

The condition scale we use is as follows, and appears in every listing.

1 ❉ Excellent condition (rare), beautiful and perfect, possibly never worn. (We use this sparingly - only when we really mean it!)
2 ❉ Very good condition, with wear or spots that are not photographable, little visible wear, lightly worn.
3 ❉ Good condition, small noticeable wear or flaws, as photographed; normal wear for the age of the garment.
4 ❉ Fair condition, a few obvious or noticeable wear or spots, as photographed; garment construction is sound and wearable.
5 ❉ Wounded Bird condition, may need repair or work; as-is or as found; a garment that despite its issues or flaws is still worthy of consideration.

VINTAGE ❉ SIZING

Vintage clothing fits differently than modern clothing, which is cut loosely to fit a wide variety of body shapes. For this reason, it is important that you allow enough wearing ease to move comfortably while wearing your vintage garment. Vintage garments were often tailored to fit an individual woman and evidence of seams and darts being taken in or out is not uncommon; so it is often possible to have a vintage garment altered to fit you if your measurements are off by just a bit. We are happy to answer any questions about available seam allowances, darts, and hem allowances. We do not allow returns due to poor fit, please ask any questions you have before purchase.

HOW ❉ WE ❉ MEASURE ❉ OUR ❉ GARMENTS

Use a dressmaker’s tape measure, which you can get at your local fabric store. Measure yourself over the undergarments you plan to wear & not over your clothing.
❉ BUST: measure over the fullest part of your bust while wearing a bra
❉ WAIST: measure around the smallest point of your waist where it naturally curves in
❉ HIP: measure around the fullest part of your hips, usually about 9" below your waist
❉ SHOULDER TO WAIST: Measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front, following the curve of your bust
❉ SHOULDER: Measure across your back from where you would want seams to lie at the top of each
❉ LENGTH: measure from the top of your shoulder to the point you want the garment to end

MODERN ❉ SIZE ❉ EQUIVALENT

With vintage clothing, tagged size is usually not indicative of the true size of the garment. We use the following scale based on WAIST SIZE to give you a general idea of the fit of the garment in modern terms.

❉ EXTRA SMALL: 24" waists and below
❉ SMALL: 25" to 27" waists
❉ MEDIUM: 28" to 31" waists
❉ LARGE: 32" to 36" waists
❉ EXTRA LARGE: 37" waists and above

Sometimes, another dimension (i.e. a very small bust) will sway our label system to the next smallest size, even if the waist size fits within another size on our scale. It is important to remember that this is just a guide! The tape measure is truly your best friend for finding vintage fit. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

VINTAGE ❉ IS ❉ RECYCLING

Buying vintage clothing is socially responsible, as each garment purchased combats the 14.3 million tons of textile waste per year produced in the United States alone! (Source: Environmental Protection Agency, 2017)

We use green, earth-friendly, natural cleaners (such as vinegar, baking soda, and organic dry cleaners) to clean our garments. When shipping your items, we try to re-use cardboard boxes and shipping materials whenever possible.
