Welcome to the Gilmour Design Collection of Handmade Homewares, Adornments and Accessories crafted in wood from reclaimed and recycled Australian timber. Please spend a little time viewing the range of wooden kitchen and cooking utensils, salad servers and tongs, muddlers and wood tampers and other items such as spoon rests. Also, the store has some wearable jewellery items carved from wood, bone and metals.
Gilmour Design has been an active store on Etsy since 2008 (originally named Forest Treasures). The business is physically located in northern Australia and has been operating since 2001.
My name is Bob Gilmour … I am the owner of Gilmour Design and I make every item listed in the store. I am passionate about great design which combines beauty, function and desirability in a minimalist format resulting in smooth organically-inspired objects made from wood and other materials.
I believe objects we use in everyday life, wear as fashion items or surround ourselves with in our homes should be beautiful in a minimal way without the need to complicate them with unnecessary adornment. The pieces I create for sale are the same as those I make for my own home … my personal ethic is Simple, Beautiful, Minimal.
Every piece of work I create begins with careful selection of materials and is made one item at a time … there is no mass-production. During the creation process, my energy is focused on the work at hand so the best possible outcome is achieved for the finished object. When products leave my studio and make the journey to their forever home, they carry the energy of love, awareness and caring that is imbued during my making process. Shipped items are prepared and packed with the same attention to detail and care that is paramount right through the creation process.
I live and create on top of a mountain range in the lush tropical hinterland of Port Douglas, Far North Queensland, Australia. My environment is rainforest, native bushland with abundant wildlife, permanent creeks, swimming holes and adjacent mountains. The freedom to live within wild nature defines my creative practice and provides inspiration to develop the smooth flowing forms I love ... it also defines the framework by which I live my life ... holistic, aware and connected. I am not bound by the routines and limitations of mainstream society so my work flows with a fluidity and ease from an inner place of knowing without fear, anger or anxiety … Simple, Beautiful, Minimal.

5 out of 5 starsBeautifully crafted utensil. Easy to use, easy to care for. It was a pleasure interacting with Bob as he shared updates about the make, materials (it looks like all his utensils are made from salvaged and recycled Australian and exotic hardwoods, my specific piece was made from teak), and shipping. Looking forward to using this left handed stirrer for many decades to come.

5 out of 5 starsWonderful communication from this seller. He chose to treat my order as a set so all were of the same super wood. This shows how much he cares about his product. Also, fast shipping from Australia to the US....last time I bought something there it took months to arrive. Great buying experience from this seller....tops!!!!

I love the uncomplicated simplicity of minimal design and especially in curvaceous forms whose fluid shape takes inspiration from nature. In my work, I create organically-inspired homewares, wearables and accessories from wood and other materials.
