I got this ring in yesterday and it is one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry I have ever owned. I sent in my grandmothers diamonds and I am so pleased to be able to wear them in a setting that is meaningful to me. My daughters and granddaughters will also cherish Thai piece. Thank you!

About

Hand-Carved Awesomeness!

I am a full-time jewelry designer & maker out of Portland, Oregon. I specialize in custom-designed and hand-carved rings out of 100% recycled metals. My personal style tends to gravitate toward natural and botanical motifs, with hints at Art Nouveau and Art Deco. I did not study or train to do jewelry, however; rather, I got a really useful degree in History and Russian. It was a solid four years, but quite honestly, I probably should have majored in Art. (When's the last time you heard someone say that?) I *never* imagined that I would end up doing art for a living, yet here I am. It makes me happy just typing that!

I have been making jewelry, in some fashion, for over 20 years, and selling officially through Etsy since 2010. I'm the sole owner, designer, wax carver, metal manipulator, polisher, stone setter, photographer, blog-poster, email-answerer, packager, and podcast jockey at Gin & Butterflies. One thing I do, however, is outsource my casting, as it is a very persnickety, yet crucial, step in the process for some of my pieces, involving expensive equipment that takes up precious space, and which happens to be the one the part I am least excited about. Molten gold is cool, mind you, but I really find my joy in the carving of something beautiful, then taking the rough metal piece and finishing it out with subtle details and nuances. Happily, my guy is excellent at what he does, which gives me more flexibility over what I can offer, and frees me up to do all the fun stuff.

Thank you so much for visiting my shop! I'll get some more photos of my studio and process up soon! Meanwhile, you can visit my blog to see lots of examples of custom pieces I have made: blog.cheyenneweil.com

I also have an FAQ! (Bear with me, it's still a work in progress.) You can read it here: http://blog.cheyenneweil.com/f-a-q/ . And of course, if you have any burning questions you need answered, absolutely send me a note!

Welcome to my shop. I hope you have found exactly what you were looking for. If you did not, however, I'm a maniac with a carving tool and I love to do custom work. If you have something in mind that is not quite what you see here, send me a note and I'd be happy to work with you to come up with a design completely unique and personal. For more examples of custom work, please see my blog: blog.cheyenneweil.com .

** DIAMONDS **
I use only recycled (cleaned, sorted, graded) or conflict-free certified diamonds (Kimberly Process Cert.), and get much of my metal stock from Hoover & Strong, an eco-conscious refiner who sells 100% recycled metals.

In addition to white diamonds, I can get gorgeous natural champagne or cognac-colored diamonds. I can also get lab-created diamonds (man made in a laboratory rather than dug out of the ground; these are identical in chemical composition to natural diamonds) in colorless or in stunning colors such as blue, pink, red, orange, yellow, green; these are ideal for those squeamish about destructive mining practices.

Larger diamonds come with a GIA or AGS (or equivalent) certificate.

** RECYCLING OLD GOLD JEWELRY **
I've had a lot of questions about melting down old broken gold jewelry to make a new piece. Unfortunately I can't use old metal to cast a new piece but what I can do is send your metal in to my refining company for cash and use this to offset the cost of a new piece. You get 96% gold market price for whatever fine gold is obtained from your jewelry (and I subtract shipping: $2 + insurance). Feel free to message me for more information if you are interested in this option.

And of course, if you have any questions about any of the payment, shipping, or store policies, please do not hesitate to contact me via email (cheyenneweil@gmail.com) or send me a convo.

Thank you!

Payment
* Paypal!

* Etsy allows credit card payment! Woot!

Shipping
If the item is a custom order, please allow at least ~4-6 weeks for me to make the piece (I can let you know a more accurate timeline via email when you order). If you have a wedding coming up, just let me know and I'll be sure to get you your rings on time :)

I ship non-custom in-shop items within three days of receipt of payment. Multiple items may be shipped together (simply calculate total insurance cost).

** SHIPPING TO A DIFFERENT ADDRESS **
I can only ship to the address verified on your Paypal account.

** INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING **
I DO ship internationally; I just do not have it listed in my purchase section because of the wide variety of pricing and insurance depending upon where the item is shipped. Just convo me with your address and I'll give you a shipping quote.

Otherwise, I ship USPS Priority or Express, insured. You can specify uninsured if you want to but please be aware that I cannot responsible for damage or loss by the postal company.

** UNINSURED SHIPPING PRICES **
* To US: $6

* Everywhere else: $12.50

Of course, if you are located in Portland and would prefer to stop by to pick up your piece and save on shipping, you are welcome to do so and I'd love to meet you :)

** PACKAGING **
All pieces are sent out in nice gift boxes or ring boxes and tied up with a satin ribbon. A gift card in enclosed stating exactly what your piece is, along with cleaning instructions.
Refunds and Exchanges
** NON-CUSTOM ITEMS **
I will accept returns for non-custom pieces (i.e., pieces that I already had made) if you contact me within 7 days of receipt. You will need to contact me ASAP and then return the item (at your expense) to me in the original packaging and in original condition. I can issue either a full refund (minus shipping) or credit for another piece in the shop.

** CUSTOM ITEMS **
Custom items can be returned for a 60% refund (minus shipping) or 70% credit for another piece in the shop. Again, contact me ASAP if you need to do this. The item must be returned at your expense in original condition and in original packaging. You must contact me within 7 days of receipt of item.

Really though, let's just not let this happen. Feel free to ask me all the questions you have, let me know your concerns. I will send you photos of every step of the way (sketches, wax images, etc.) and when something starts to not look right, you will have ample opportunity to let me know so we can fix it.

** CHARITABLE DONATIONS **
From time to time, this shop offers donations to charitable organizations with a purchase (will be very plainly stated--do not fear: you WILL know about it). Just keep in mind that any donations made to a charitable organization will not be refunded in the event that a piece needs to be returned.
Additional policies and FAQs
** RUSH ORDERS **
I hate to have to do it but I get a lot of requests for rush orders and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to accommodate them with my current workload. Therefore, if you need to rush your order, I'll charge between $125-$175 additional for fully custom designed/carved orders and $75-$100 for the pieces listed in my Etsy shop. The range in price is because my workload can fluctuate quite a bit. Thank you for your understanding!

** RING SIZING **
When ordering a ring to be made to size, please be absolutely sure you have the correct ring size. Go to a jewelry store and have them measure your finger using both a narrow measuring ring and a wide ring. This gives me a very good idea of the shape of your finger. Be sure to take into account how your fingers feel that day; i.e., the temperature at the time of sizing (your fingers can swell a little during warmer weather, shrink during cold dry weather--if you wear rings normally you probably have a good sense of whether you are having an average finger-size day). Many of the rings I make cannot be easily sized once finished due to the way the carvings go all the way around the ring so it is really important I have the right size when I make you a ring.

** SNEAKY RING SIZING HOW-TO!! **
Two options I can think of: Select a ring she wears on the SAME finger you wish to buy her a ring (or him--goes both ways :). You could either bring it into a jewelry shop to get the size, or you could buy this cheapy ring mandrel from amazon.com: http://tinyurl.com/7h2yorx (in case she doesn't often go without it or would notice if it were missing for any period). Slip her ring on the mandrel and note the size; just make sure it is a nice snug fit. Best is to also send me the mandrel to calibrate sizing on my end; there can be some variation in plastic mandrels.

Or, the more dramatic option: enlist the help of one of her friends to take her shopping and stop by a jewelry shop on the pretense that the friend wants to be sized for whatever reason. The friend then needs to convince your fiance-to-be to try on the sizers too "just because" and the friend can later tell you her size.

** SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS **
Any special requests regarding shipping or notes to be included when I send your piece, etc. should be made known to me using the screamingest bold ALL-CAPS red flashing font you can find. Basically, just make it obvious to me if you have any special requests; I'd hate to miss something critical in a "note to seller" or anything :)
