I ordered too big a size but other than that, it's excellent.

About

Expat in Bali

In August 2009 I quit my job in retail banking in New Zealand and moved to Bali where my daughter was living at the time. I live in the middle of a typical Balinese village not far from Sanur village and beach.

On arrival in Bali I opened an Etsy shop and began selling pillow covers made from authentic handwoven Indonesian ikat.

My need for cool comfortable dresses for the hot humid climate in Bali eventually led me to making caftans.

When I became aware that I was known around Sanur as “the tourist who wears big dresses” (caftans) and then lost a lot of weight while sick with Dengue Fever I was motivated to design a new closet!

I set about designing a collection of garments perfect for the "resort" way of life with stylishly loose cut silhouettes utilising handcrafted Bali Batik rayons, hand painted Javanese Batik cotton sarongs and lightweight linens. Thus "My Bali Closet" was born.

I do all the cutting of garments and Kadek, a neighbour, and experienced tailor, does the sewing. Everything else, including photography, I do myself.

I go out early most evenings to look for somewhere to eat and a location to take photos of the outfit I am wearing to post on social media (Etsy Shop Updates, Instagram, and Facebook) or maybe to update a shop image. This has been lots of fun with many people stopping to ask me why I am taking photos which gives me an opportunity to talk about my Etsy shop and products made from handcrafted Indonesian textiles.
