I sew one-of-a-kind and limited-edition aprons, skirts, and household goods using a combination of repurposed, vintage, and new materials. My work honors the creativity, thrift, and technical skill of generations of American needlewomen. I strive to make the best possible use of every material that comes into my hands, and to make things that are beautiful as well as useful. Please WEAR and USE your Gingham Life purchase! It is made to last as long as the lovely mid-century items that inspire my work.

I design my own aprons or use vintage patterns. For perfecting and grading my original patterns, I have occasional professional assistance from Custom Patterns by Louise, http://www.custompatternsbylouise.com/

My goods are made and stored in a smoke-free environment. I prewash all fabrics with non-toxic, earth safe cleaning products.

I sew for the sheer fun of it and because I was taught as a child to "do something constructive!" I'm happy when the things I make bring pleasure to others.

Custom requests are welcome! I will work with you to find materials and colors you will enjoy. We may need to "convo" back and forth a few times to clarify and finalize your custom order. Since not all custom order requests lead to purchases, I generally cannot purchase your preferred fabric until you have paid for your custom order. Timely communication is the best way of assuring that your preferred fabric is still available. Please note that a $2 surcharge applies to all custom orders because of the additional time involved, and there may be additional costs for materials. As with my ready-made products, I control costs to the fullest extent possible to keep custom orders affordable.

Gingham Life's Love the Earth Business Principles

--Use high quality materials and meticulous workmanship so products will hold up to years of use.

--Use some repurposed materials in most items.

--Shop and ship close to home--by foot or bus at least 50% of the time--to reduce the products' carbon footprint.

--Cut fabric carefully to avoid waste, and use remnants for other projects whenever possible. Leftover fabric from one apron can be used for bias binding, sashes, trim, or pockets for another apron, or for patchwork. I participate in my city's organics recycling program, which accepts tiny cotton scraps.

--Use environmentally safe laundry products.
