About

Earth Friendly Clothes for Kids

"According to the most recently released figures from the EPA, in 2010 Americans discarded 13.1 million tons of textiles." (source: http://www.triplepundit.com/2012/01/textile-waste-be-banned-landfills/)

I've always known that way too much usable material ends up wasted. That's the main reason I am a huge "pack rat" when it comes to things like fabric and old clothes. For years I have been saving itty bitty pieces of fabric leftover from other sewing projects, clothes that have seen better days and random buttons that don't match. I have over 10 years sewing experience and as many years hoarding such items. For me it would be just wrong to throw away perfectly usable items like these and let them rot in a landfill when all they need is a little love and attention. As a result my house is pretty much overrun! I decided to start this line for kids as a way to do my part (however small) to chip away at the above figure and to make some space in my sewing room as well. ...and perhaps also open a few minds?

The garments found in my shop are all one of a kind. They are made with lightly used and vintage items such as: clothes, sheets, curtains and other assorted odds and ends. I also use scraps of fabric leftover from other projects I've worked on over the years. All of these things combine to give EcoKids it's unique flavor. No two items are exactly alike and any combination of the above may exist to create each one. I personally design and sew each garment myself. I sew on a Viking sewing machine, a Juki sewing machine and a Juki serger to create clothes that will last long enough to be passed down to the next generation.

Hi! Welcome to EcoKids Clothing. Here you will find clothing for kids sizes 12 months to 6T. Everything is handmade by me from scratch using "Earth Friendly" materials. What does that mean? It means that I make it a point to keep lightly used & vintage fabrics, tiny scraps from other projects, buttons, zippers and so on out of landfills and give them a second life as something useful and cute for your little ones. For more information on my materials and techniques check out my About page:

Additional policies and FAQs
-Measurements are stated for every item and can be located at the bottom of the listing.
-These measurements are the actual garment measurements, not ideal body measurements.
-Depending on the type of fit you prefer (fitted, loose...), each individual item may or may not work for your needs. Please see the measurements carefully.

TIP: A great way to tell if an item is going to work is to measure a similar one that you already own and compare those numbers to the ones in the listing.
