Giulia Fatica is a recent graduate from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a BFA Degree with Distinction in Fiber and has also studied Textile Design at the Edinburgh College of Art and Design in Scotland. She recently graduated from the University of Calgary with a Post Bachelor Degree in Education. She specialized in Art Education. Her interest in textiles is to create structural and unique fabric. The technique she uses involves repetitive machine stitching a single strand of thread to form a cohesive non-woven free form structure. The result is strands of threads that have been stitched in place. Her work is abstract, organic and transparent. It has a lace like quality to it and mimics shapes found in the natural environment.
Nature has always been a source of inspiration for her, for it fosters ideas and creativity. Giulia’s scarves are handmade and particular because no two scarves are alike. Giulia’s work has been exhibited internationally. She was one of the Canadian artists selected to sell her scarves in South Korea at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale and has exhibited at the World of Threads Competition in Oakville, Ontario. Her passion in life is to create beautiful and one of a kind art.
