I purchased the 'ram's horns' as a birthday gift for my partner, who's an Aries. Turned out to be the perfect gift. Gladys's craftsmanship is unbelievable. On display on the stand that I had made the horns look absolutely monumental. Thanks Gladys.

It’s a real handicraft work. nIt’s very important for me the striking similarity of the mask with a live grey parrot. So when you put it on you can feel some kind of reincarnation. This mask will be present for the owner of a grey parrot. It will add new colors in their relations, I wonder. nGladys, thank you for your care and your attentive approach to the customers. n

In my studio is where I am happiest.
My studio consists of two rooms on two floors. This upstairs room is light filled and is where I make my creations.
Downstairs is used for storage - A selection of raw sheep's wool from local farmers and small holders.
I am never alone when I'm at work.
Ongoing experiments in techniques and ideas - playfulness with the material is important to me, it keeps things fresh.

Transformation by an ancient textile

This particular story starts back in 2005, when I bought a fleece straight off the sheep during a visit to a sheep farm with my, then 9 year old, daughter.

Listening to the farmer's wife talk about the state of the world and the perceived low value of wool, I felt strangely compelled to purchase a fleece to see what I could do with it.

I had been creatively frustrated for years and had stopped painting altogether after attending Art College (rather ironically). Busy with motherhood, the need to put bread on the table, and a complete mental block when it came to painting, my life was going in an entirely different direction to the one I had predicted and wished for myself.

I needed to reclaim the core of me, which is (and has always been) a creative one, and this entirely innocent trip to a farm and the fleece that was a result of it presented me with a blank slate. Here was an opportunity to start with a material I knew nothing about, from scratch, with an open mind.

Having circled the fleece a few times, and after a few false starts (spinning and knitting), I turned to feltmaking. Library book in hand, my first try was a tea cosy of moderate success.

I was intrigued by the process, but soon after became a mother for the second time (it's all in the timing!) and had little time to get the grips with the technique.

But as my youngest grew, so did my desire to go back to felt and, via experiments with toys, hand puppets and other items I finally arrived at animal masks. Even at the start of my felt journey I knew I would be one day be making larger pieces, so it came almost as a relief to finally get stuck in. I spent years working out the technicalities of felting such complex hollow 3-dimensional shapes, and I'm still learning and developing the process now.

My vision is big still, and not limited to masks or felt alone either. My private work is progressing into more conceptual pieces and I visualise installations for art galleries - this is what I'm slowly working towards in my own time. I'm becoming more and more interested in incorporating other materials and techniques into my work, and perhaps one day I will even go back to my first love, painting, although for now I am entirely content to concentrate on felt.

This is a safe, on-line method of payment. A Paypal account is easy to set up and funds are withdrawn from your chosen bank account immediately.

Shipping

I will endeavour to ship your item within 4-5 days of receiving payment. Orders placed on weekends/holidays and custom/personalized pieces may take a little longer, but I will keep you informed of progress.

Please allow at least 4-5 weeks for made-to-order items to be completed. Some items may take longer, depending on size, amount and/or level of complexity. Please contact me directly so we can discuss a time schedule to suit us both.

If (due to unforeseen circumstances) I cannot meet these deadlines I will contact you to discuss alternative options. If you need your item to arrive as quickly as possible (to meet a photoshoot deadline for example) and you would like me to try and ship to you sooner, please get in touch and I will do my best to accomodate your request!

NOTE ON SHIPPING/POSTAGE:

Shipping costs are approximated and include the actual cost of shipping plus a small amount to cover the cost of shipping supplies and materials. Shipping costs to different destinations vary wildly and are dependant on the size of the parcel, rather than the weight. Fees given with each listing are a rough indication of cost only.

Please contact me with the details of the country you would like me to send this item to before you click 'buy', and I will do my best to provide an accurate quote for you, which may well be cheaper than the prices below! I will of course reimburse shipping overcharges should they occur.

Dimensions of made-to-order items may vary from the example listing according to the buyer's specific wishes. As such shipping cost for made to order items may differ from the indication given here. I will always do my best to provide the lowest possible quote for you and will always communicate the various options with you before shipping.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS
All of my items can be shipped internationally and the approximated shipping price for different parts of the word are given along with a standard "Everywhere Else" listing that I based on shipping to the mailing zone farthest from me (Australia).

If the shipping price turns out to be significantly less to ship to your destination I will refund the difference via PayPal or Direct Checkout.

PLEASE NOTE that buyers are responsible for and all all duty and custom charges that may be incurred. Before purchasing, please take the time to find the information relevant for your country at your local post office or on the web. Every country varies.

Additional policies and FAQs

PACKAGING/ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: Whilst ensuring that your item will reach you undamaged and in once piece, I will use recycled packaging where possible. This may mean using re-cycled bubble wrap, plastic bags or boxes. However, please rest assured I wrap and pack with care and would never send out something in the post if I wasn't confident it would arrive safely.

If you are buying this item as a gift and are having it directly delivered to the recipient, please let me know and I will make sure the presentation is suitably festive.

CUSTOM MADE PRODUCTS: All pieces are created by hand, so no two items are identical. That's the beauty of the product! Please allow for slight variances from what is shown in the made to order photos. If you are interested in ordering a custom made piece, please get in touch.

HEALTH & SAFETY
If you suffer from a lanolin allergy please be advised that, although all my wool is cleaned well before and during the felt making process, I cannot guarantee it is a 100% clear of lanolin, the grease that is naturally found in sheeps wool.

All my felt products are made from 100% sheeps wool, with the occasional addition of (cotton) fabric or other natural fibres such as linen, silk or rayon. Coloured wool has been dyed either by myself (using natural dyes) or by my supplier (using synthetic dyes). Some very small remnants of vegetation such as straw or grass may be found embedded in the felt.

My felt puppets are not suitable for children under 36 months and parental guidance is advisable.
