OWN A REAL PIECE OF HISTORY from Glass Insulator Lights

Glass insulators were first produced in the 1850's for use with the telegraph line. As the technology developed, the insulators were needed for electrical power lines and telephone lines. These were high atop the telephone pole installed on wooden pegs. The insulators were used to support the open wire strung between the telephone poles. The glass insulators were made of a very sturdy glass and stayed in place for years. The color of the insulators vary due to the color of glass they had left over each day to make new insulators and the long term exposure to the ultraviolet radiation of the sunlight. This is why insulators have such unique colors. About one hundred years later, the antique insulators began to be a collectors item.

Glass Insulator Lights is a craft lighting company that creates one of a kind fixtures using these unique vintage railroad telegraph insulators.

Quality handcrafted lighting from the fusion of history, ingenuity and design aesthetics. Our fixtures are an elegant remembrance of early American innovation, craftsmanship and beauty.
