My humble beginnings...

I actually fell in LOVE with glass back in a Junior High Art Class. We only did one glass project, but I always remembered it. It's one of the few art projects I've kept all these years. So when I was looking for a hobby, as a stay at home mom, I knew I had to find a way to do glass again. I found a starter kit online and everything started from there. I used my previous knowledge, followed the book provided and I read a TON of info from glass forums. I soldered my first project on a piece of cardboard on top of my washing machine. Let me tell you... it was not easy. Especially, with the curved top! But I made it through and even though it's not perfect, I kept that first project. It still sits on a bookcase in my living room. It's a constant reminder of how far I've come.

My first experience with glass fusing wasn't much better. I was a little terrified of my first kiln. So when I did my first firing I literally sat by it the whole time to make sure it didn't explode or something. I know... that's so ridiculous to me now, but I really didn't know what to expect. I'm self taught so I've never seen anyone fuse before. The first firing didn't turn out very well. I didn't know anything about layering and how to achieve different looks by using different temperatures. So my first project, four coasters, were a little bumpy. Well, that might be fine for a suncatcher, but I don't think you want to put your glass down and have it slide off the coaster. Those four coasters sat around my studio for the longest time until I couldn't stand to look at them any longer. So I decided to cut them up into little pieces and try to make pendants out of them. SUCCESS!!! It worked wonderfully and that's when I realized that you really can make something beautiful out of something ugly. You just have to think creatively.

I hope you enjoy my Glass Jewelry Shop! If you'd like to see more of my work you can stop by my other Glass Shop, Angela's Glass Studio.
