Creating Glass in Mexico

We left the Pacific Northwest in 2008, to fulfill a dream of living in Mexico. We live in an old, old town up in the mountains in the state of Sonora. It is a beautiful town, buildings and homes are of colonial architecture and are sparkling white in the sun, against a deep blue sky and brilliant green mountains. Alamos is a World Heritage Site and a Pueblo Magico, and is a well loved town by both its Mexican residents and its small expat community. We enjoy the tranquility of living up in the mountains, but we are also only an hour away from the beach. You can't beat that!

When we moved here, Senor (which is what I call my husband) brought all of his tools with him because he is re constructing and remodeling our 100 year old ranch house. I also brought all of my tools: kilns, grinders, polishers, a bunch of saws and an assortment of files, cutters, oxygen and propane regulators, hoses, 20 boxes of other odd pieces of glass working equipment I could not live without and hundreds of pounds of glass.

Mexico is filled with talented glass workers who work with a type of glass that is easily accessible in the country. My glass is a different story. I work with dichroic glass, a glass coated with metal properties created by NASA for the space program. The properties, when heated to around 1600 degrees in the kiln, adhere permanently to the glass and then polish to a bright sheen. Dichroic glass transmits color and reflects it, having the ability to change colors in different lighting situations. It also allows light to pass through it, creating even more color possibilities. Because it is hard to buy in Mexico, when we visit the states we always cross back through the border with our car loaded with dichroic glass instead of peanut butter, clothes and other assorted goodies.

Our casa is under constant construction. Senor is pretty talented at this reconstruction stuff and stays very busy. I would say the only thing he can't do is remember to close our gate. When this happens the next thing I know we are both out trying to chase either burros, bulls or horses out of the yard. Sometimes he will ask for my help and I might paint a viga, or move some wood, but usually I am left to work in my shop, wherever it may be at the time, creating what I think are beautiful masterpieces out of glass.

Life is good here. Que le vaya bien. Linda Lou

Senor and I live in Mexico. I spend my days cutting, grinding, firing, and polishing dichroic glass. Sometimes I have to stop long enough to chase bulls out of the yard, or paint a viga for Senor or pet the cat. Life is good.

Again, I have researched my best shipping options to guarantee that you receive your merchandise.

*******************I ship by registered mail from Alamos, Sonora, Mexico. I have 100% success in shipping from Mexico. Jewelry items are shipped in pretty ribbon wrapped gift boxes that are carefully enclosed in a bubble wrapped envelope.
Wind chimes and sun catcher glass pieces are individually wrapped.

Total shipping from Mexico to a USA destination will take a minimum of 4 weeks. I do my best to get your package to you as soon as possible from Mexico. Often I am able to send packages north, by bus or car, to be shipped more quickly. I will always post on my opening shop announcement when this service is available. Other world destinations often take less time.

Please note: There are no custom fees involved in shipping from Mexico to the USA. I have yet to experience any fees to other countries around the world, but should I encounter any, I would not be responsible for them. I have shipped to Russia, Indonesia, Japan, Canada and France, among many other countries, and have never encountered additional fees.
If the item does not reach you, the loss is mine, it is not yours and we will discuss what to do next. Of course, you would receive a full refund if that is what you would like. I have been sending and receiving packages worldwide without any problems, so I do not expect anything to get lost.
Additional policies and FAQs
I love custom orders. If you have something you would like made, we will work together on a design, colors and substances. Again, I don't make the same thing twice, but I am willing to alter a design you see, enough so that it becomes unique in its own, just for you. Please contact me if you are interested in a custom design.
