playing on the edge of the fashionverse™

I love to play. Always have. My favorite thing to play with is COLOR! It started with those yummy crayons. I just love that waxy aroma. And no, I didn’t eat them. Then I moved on to finger paint. And then to markers, and then colored pencils. But I stopped doing art as a teenager when my small town high school didn’t have art classes. I found my way back to creativity in college for graphic design when I had to take illustration classes. In design school, I fell in love with flowing lines and shapes, which in my world are a perfect partner to my love of color. My first paintings out of design school were basically fancy design projects. I guess you could call them artsy emoticons. I was afraid to let myself swim in the moment. Over time, that style bored me to tears, so I began playing in the moment - brush in hand with no plan. My current painting style is a quirky combo of my old and new. I guess I’m learning not to take myself too seriously.

I believe art can be experienced in all dimensions, not only the flat space of walls. For many years, I dreamed of creating wearable paintings to use and enjoy in everyday living... my vision came to life as Glint Gear™! I love to paint and love to sew, so this is the perfect marriage of two passions.

All Glint Gear bags and pouches are made with tons of care, time and fun by me in the awesome smoke-free, pet-free home studio called Liquid Star Base in beautiful South Austin, Texas. The entire downstairs living and dining area are turned into the art studio. The carpet was ripped up and the cement painted to allow for as much mess as our inner artists want to make. I love sharing the studio with others. An entire wall of the studio is reserved as a graffiti wall for friends to play on and express themselves. It is truly very special.

The Glint Gear Process:

There are many steps to the birth of Glint Gear, and it can be quite a lengthy labor of love! First, I play with artists acrylic paint and medium on large pieces of primed unstretched artist canvas then let dry thoroughly. The painting curing/drying process can take up to two weeks to complete and fully dry. I initially would not varnish the paintings because with the medium and method I use, there are often juicy texture variations on the fabric pieces ranging from glossy to matt to canvas showing through, and a varnish would flatten out this interesting texture. In the spring of 2011, I began varnishing all the painted pieces. The color "pop" and durability far outweigh the texture flattening!

After each piece of painted fabric is complete, I design a bag or pouch with different fabrics to bring out the sass in each painting... and cut the beautiful paintings into pieces. The final transformation process is to carefully sew them on my Janome Magnolia with either Guttermann or Mettler 100% polyester thread. They each have their own personality, which then informs their new name.

Oh, and if your wondering why some of them look "wrinkled" it's because the paintings go through quite an ordeal in the turning process because of the stiffness and gloss of the art medium... it's kind of brutal, actually, when I turn them right side out after sewing. It makes you cringe to watch. And since this is an art medium, I can't iron the paintings. So consider the wrinkles little badges of honor the art has earned during its transformation into a bag. :)

Glint Gear painted canvas “breaks in” like a favorite pair of jeans. It might crack & stretch in places as a normal effect of bending non-fabric paint that’s meant to lie still & behave on a flat canvas. I cherish this as the lovable character and bravery of them daring to live as a wearable accessory. Here’s my favorite part: we’re being naughty & breaking the don’t-touch-or-you’ll-ruin-it rule. Hee. Hee.

A Glint Gear painting can never be duplicated, so if you see a bag you love, snag it now because there will never be another just like it!

Thanks so much for spending some time Glinting!

My Etsy experience began as a buyer under to feed my fused glass addiction.

Things to know...

*** Glint Gear is not for children under 12 years old due to the CPSA (Consumer Product Safety Act. Read about it here:

Please read the care instructions under additional info.

This is pro artists acrylic paint on art canvas and I never know how each piece will react when sewn. So the paint will "break in" just like your favorite pair of worn jeans. It might crack or stretch in places. This is a normal effect of bending acrylic paint that's meant to lie still and behave on a flat canvas and should be cherished as part of the unique character of how your painting dares to live as a wearable accessory. And here's my favorite part - we are breaking the “don’t touch or you might ruin it” rule when it comes to art! Aren't we naughty?

If you have any questions, please-please-please feel free to ask. I have a full-time day job and will not be checking in on you during the day, but I promise I'll hurry home as fast as I can and check on you each night!

Returns and exchanges
I'm confident you'll love your Glint Gear and never offer any item that is not super-duper well made. Each piece has taken hours of time to make and are not listed in the shop unless they pass my super critical quality check. That being said, I don’t give refunds. I make sure that photos accurately represent each bag style, and measurements are included in every listing. However, due to variances in calibration between my computer monitor and yours, colors may not be accurate on your computer screen, and I can not be held responsible for these differences in color.

Generally, all sales are final. Sale and clearance item sales are always final. However, I will consider a return for store credit only of regular priced unused/unworn items on a case-by-case basis if contacted within 2 days after you receive it. Store credit returns are granted at my discretion. And yes, wearing it only once to a quick lunch date or a trip to the coffee shop does count as worn/used, no matter how great you think it still looks. I will never re-sell any piece that has been used at all because I want ALL of my Glint Girls to have a brand new item. Return policy does not cover the above-mentioned break-in of paint cracks. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

Sorry to be so hard lined about this, but handmade items are very special and one of a kind. Each buyer deserves the respect of having an item that is 100% new. As a friend of mine would say, "This isn't Wal-mart!"
I accept PayPal (You don't need a PayPal account to purchase via PayPal, just your credit or debit card will do!) PayPal payments must be received within 24 hours of purchase. I'm always happy to reserve an item for you if you need more time to pay. If you would like to pay by money order, please convo me and we can make arrangements.

NOTE: All purchases made by Texas buyers will be charged sales tax.
Packages are shipped to your PAYPAL address within 2-3 days of receiving payment. Shipping insurance or tracking is optional and the cost can be added to your order. Please contact me before purchase to add insurance and/or tracking fees.

*** If you choose not to insure your item I cannot be held responsible for damaged, lost or misplaced orders. ***

All duties, tariffs, customs fees, etc., for international shipments are the responsibility of the buyer.
