Historical Costumer

Welcome to Athanasia Designs! I specialize in historical clothing, Steampunk, and cosplay of all kinds. A great deal of what I make is Plus Size, as we are not all Twiggy! Most of the designs pictured have either been sold, or are custom commissions and posted as examples. If in doubt, please contact me!

I have been making costumes and regular clothing for over 50 years, having started when I was twelve, and a young dancer. I made all my recital and competition costumes, and later, when my daughter started dance, I became Designer and Wardrobe Mistress for her ballet school. When she joined a flamenco troupe in her teens, I became Wardrobe Mistress there also, and learned to make flamenco skirts and dresses.

Later, I expanded into historical clothing, making sure the construction was as period correct as my talents could make it.

About five years ago, my daughter came to me and asked if I could make her a corset, and at that time, I had no idea how to proceed! I spent months researching, practising, and making lots of mistakes before successfully completing my first corset. I was so proud! My daughter showed it off to everyone, and they were amazed that an “older” person like myself could make such items. Now, I make corsets and sell them at conventions.
