ABOUT

GRACE is a Toronto based leather and textile accessories brand created by designer Alison Gledhill.

GRACE was started over ten years ago after Alison, having returned from India with a backpack full of sari silk, was looking for a unique way to share her experiences from abroad. To this day she still lovingly gathers textiles from around the world to use in her designs.

GRACE is a collection of accessories made from found, limited edition textiles that have been sourced through Alison’s travels. These fabrics are storytellers, they speak of their history and traditions of craft, of adventures abroad, foreign marketplaces, culture and creativity.

Every GRACE product is made by hand in Toronto, Canada.

Alison and Grace Design have been featured on The Huffington Post, MSN, Oh Joy, CBC, Global TV, The Toronto Star, Miss Moss, Creature Comforts and Canada's Financial Post, to name a few. In 2013 Alison was selected by Toronto Life magazine as a Toronto designer to watch out for and in 2012 Alison was chosen out of more than 850,000 Etsy sellers by Etsy to be an in house featured artist at their first ever pop up event in New York City. You can read more about Alison in this interview.

I requested a custom tassle handbag and the shop owner helped me by showing me several fabric options. She was very nice and the finished product is fantastic. I love the rustic look of the leather…very unique. I own a lot of bags with a vintage vibe and this one is still very unique. Thanks so much :)

About

Storytelling Through Textiles

When I was a child I saw a woman selling dresses made from sari silks at a market in my hometown on Vancouver Island in the Pacific Northwest. I thought this fabric was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen and it conjured images of palaces and maharaj, smoky mysterious corners, exotic smells and foreign music. At that time I pledged to myself that when I was old enough, I would go to India. Several years later, I did and returned to Canada with a backpack full of sari silk. I promptly started sewing clothing, pillows and bags and selling them in local consignment shops. Since that time I have traveled far and wide in search of beautiful and unique textiles to use in my designs, from Rajasthan to Tokyo, Marrakech to Oaxaca.

Grace is a collection of accessories made from found, limited edition textiles that have been sourced through my travels. The fabrics I search for are storytellers, they speak of their history and traditions of craft, of adventures abroad, foreign marketplaces, heritage and imagination. My work is rooted in a core ethos that values the preservation and diversity of culture and creativity and thus, it is with reverence and respect for these cultures and their traditions that I sample from such a diverse array of textiles from around the world.

Every GRACE product is made by hand in Toronto, Canada.

My work has been featured on The Huffington Post, MSN, Oh Joy, CBC, Global TV, The Toronto Star, Miss Moss, Creature Comforts and Canada's Financial Post, to name a few. Shipping
For current orders:

Most items are made to order. We aim to get all orders out within one week but sometimes can take up to three weeks to ship. If you need your order by a certain date please notify us at the time of purchase.

Most orders are shipped with Canada Post Trackable and usually arrive with 10 days in North America. Regrettably, we cannot take responsibility for any duties or charges incurred by your country of residence.

Many of our international orders and smaller items are sent with Canada Post Small Packet Air which is not a trackable service but is still very reliable. The cost to ship with tracking internationally is quite high and can be more than the item you are purchasing. Please contact us directly if you want to ensure that your order is fully insured and trackable when headed to an international destination.

Please note that in an effort to remain environmentally sustainable, we do not include a tracking slip or paper invoice in our shipments.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are unhappy with your item please email us as soon as you receive it. Exchange only will be issued on items sent back within 3 days. (posted, not received) and returned in their original condition.

Cancellations will only be accepted up to 48 hours after you place your order. Once production has begun on your order it will be treated as a purchased item and deemed exchangeable only. Discounted and sale items are final sale.

Custom or special orders are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. This includes large quantity bridal orders.

Our bags are guaranteed against breakage or defects for three months from time of purchase. Returns on defective items will be judged on a per case basis.
Additional policies and FAQs
As the fabrics we work with are often vintage, gently used and imported from faraway places, from time to time small defects sometimes do appear. Small pin marks, pilling, deterioration and age spots are a reality when working with vintage textiles and something you should be aware of when you place your order. While we try to avoid this, it is our belief that the beauty and one of a kind quality in these fabrics far outweighs these discrepancies.

As noted in most descriptions, your bag may look slightly different from the photo. Each piece is truly one of a kind - the placement of the pattern varies from item to item and usually will not look exactly like the photo.
