An Adventure in Woodworking!
We'd been living on a sailboat in the Florida Keys. Perfect? Pretty close. And then life intervened. We had to take a break from our life on the water. We had to return to Portland and the "real world" for a bit.
"Want to go back to a Corporate job?"
"Are you kidding?!?"
"No I'm serious. We need to make a living while we are on land...."
We love making stuff. We both worked in the tech industry when it was new and exciting and fun. Anything was possible then. And we *really* didn't want to go back.
"So then what?"
"Let's make stuff out of wood... Like boxes and stuff. Things people need. Things we'd like to have ourselves ...."
We use a combination of power and hand tools in our fabrication process. The power tools let us get "very close" very quickly -- which means we can keep prices reasonable. The hand tools, however, allow us to get the fit and finish of our products to be "just so." For us, that last step makes the difference give us a connection to the item we've made. It's immensely satisfying.
The materials we use are sourced locally in Oregon. For most things, we up-cycle waste wood from local manufacturers. This helps us keep our products affordable. For unique, one of a kind, pieces, we typically find a piece of wood that calls out to us. It says "Make me into ..." which is what we try to do.
Since our wood supply is based on what's available, we may not offer the same products all the time. Besides, making the same thing over and over is boring. If you see something you like, buy it. Tell your friends to get theirs. And, let us know that that you like it and whether we should make something similar again.
For the most part we spend our time designing things, genrating sawdust and wood chips, and fabricating things we hope will delight you!
Are we succeeding? Well, that is up to you. Let us know.
