About GratefulEarthDesign

Sales 90
On Etsy since 2011

The simple facts.

Hello again, we've already met but it is important for me to tell you that this is my dream job. I am so glad you stopped by to support me, an independent artist. I am excited to share with you a bit about myself and my shop because the connection between collector and artist is what makes Etsy so special.

I believe that I am an artist. I believe that someone who loves to cook is an artist. The child drawing on the sidewalk with chalk is an artist. We are all artists at heart. I make handbags, a simple every day item that has become all too utilitarian. It is my shops mission to create artfully tasteful bags out of unique materials to fill the void in the art world for truly functional, wearable art.

I believe a handbag should be:
-wearable art

To achieve these results I am known to:
-use recycled, repurposed, upcycled, foraged, thrifted, reclaimed, and/or locally sourced materials
-use non-conventional materials
-design and draft patterns for my bags from scratch and redraft them until the drape, body, hang and look of each piece is exactly how I want it. This process takes anywhere from one day to several months. I strive to perfectly match my vision!
-pick up treasures on my backpacking trips all over the world (silk brocade in Hong Kong, flamenco material in Seville, sari trim in Bangladesh, etc.)
-use high quality materials and methods for longevity and durability
-consider customers requests, desires and needs for each bag and bring their vision to life

When I was a child I always felt weird, different... like an outcast. As I have grown into an adult I have learned to embrace and harness my unique spirit to create items for the world to enjoy. In turn, I am comforted knowing each of my customers is somewhere out there enjoying a piece of eccentric little me.

My process is detail oriented and painstaking from beginning to end. Before you've even seen a bag it has been made and remade at least 10 times as a muslin to get the pattern, pleat placement, pocket size, drape just right. It has been tested on different materials with different interfacing types to get the drape and hang exactly as I pictured it to be. Each bag is straight stitched, all raw edges are finished, it's turned right side out and top stitched. Hours upon hours of love and labor goes into the creative process. My bags look as beautiful on the inside as they do out, and this is because that is the only way to get a bag that will last you years to come.

    Owner, Maker, Designer

I am an artist, I am a wanderer, I think Cimetière du Père-Lachaise is the most beautiful place in the world, I love artisan pickles & the occasional glass of fine scotch. Call me old fashioned or an oddball and I will say thanks.

  • My Niece, Dani :)

    Inspirational Asset

This is Dani. She is my squishy (that means niece). She learned to sew this weekend and I couldn't be more proud. Grandma (my Mom) taught her, just like she taught me. Here she is modeling her pillow, stuffed Tinkerbell and homemade dress.

Returns and exchanges
I do not want you to be stuck with an item that doesn't work for you. Please e-mail me before purchasing if you are concerned about fit. That way we can work it out BEFORE you purchase and I mail out. In the event that you still receive an item that doesn't fit or isn't what you expect, I will accept a return. You must pay return shipping, and when I've received the item I will refund your payment (minus shipping and packaging costs). I reserve the sole right to accept or deny all returns so e-mail me if you have any problems because I want to make sure you have the best experience you possibly can! My goal is for you to love the item I create for you as much as I enjoyed creating it, if this is not the case I will work my best to amend the situation.
Grateful Earth Design accepts credit/debit card payments through Etsy's direct check out and also accepts payments through Paypal.

If custom orders can't be filled for any reason on the shop's end, the order will be cancelled and you will be fully refunded. The custom order process requires the buyer to contact the shop owner before purchase to ensure that the item can be made. If this is not done the order may have to be cancelled.

Once a custom order has been paid for in full the project is started immediately. Because these items are specially made for each customer please understand that no refunds can be made and no cancellations can be accepted after the start of a custom order. Refunds for custom orders will only be made in the case of error on my part.
I will ship all pre-made products as soon as payment is received (same or next day). If there is a need to amend this policy, I will verify via Etsy message. I can only ship to PayPal and Etsy CONFIRMED addresses. I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this causes, however according to PayPal rules and policies I'm not covered under seller protection if I ship to an unconfirmed address. I ship all items USPS priority mail. This method provides a tracking number, which I will pass on to you so you don't have to wonder where your item is! :) Depending on location, you should receive your item in two to five business days. There is a possibility of increased charges for custom shipping profiles.
Additional policies and FAQs
I will do custom orders if you provide me with accurate measurement and a thorough description of what you'd like. It is important that you contact me before purchasing a listing for a custom order to get an accurate estimated turnover time and a reserved listing to be made up just for you. Message me and we can discuss! :)
