Bits of Story - Collected and Retold through paintings.
You know how people joke about being born in a barn? Well, I was born and raised in a barn on an apple orchard in Kansas. My parents unschooled my four siblings and me. Our house was full of wonders – puppet theaters, zip lines, tight rope walks, a functional stage and more. My entire childhood was one whirlwind of living and breathing Art and creation. We baked and gardened and played until the flour covered us and the dirt was caked under our fingernails. We built rafts and sailed across the pond, had fairy tea parties, and sang songs until my parents were about to go crazy. Now, as a new mommy in Greeley, Colorado, I do everything I can to spread Art and creativity to those around me. Be it baking crazy concoctions, teaching Art to H.S. students, or guerrilla gardening, everything I do involves creativity and Art. And, everything I create encompasses bits and pieces from my life and story.
To create my paintings, I spend many hours gathering and collecting tidbits of ephemera - old books, vintage clothes patterns, tossed aside love letters, broken images, etc. I take these bits and pieces of stories and weave them together to create a larger image that tells the story of "us" and of "you." My goal with my art is to showcase these collected histories and to share this beautiful story with others.
