Announcement   I'd love to help you preserve an heirloom or simply give a facelift to a cool thrift store find!

Check out the samples here...anything is possible...just send me a message!

Some curvier pieces are limited to local customers only, however, I can accommodate parson's chairs, benches, stools and most dining chairs with a little help from you.

You can view more of my slipcovers at:
http://slipcovers.my-free.website

If you see something you like, but would like it in a different size, shape, or color, please send me a message and I will gladly work with you to customize your piece.

**** SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING CUSTOM ORDERS from Shipped Fabric*****

Many customers ship fabric to me for construction of their projects.

For BEST RESULTS:

1) Be sure your name is on your fabric shipment somewhere. :) This is important for fabric shipped from the source to me..it doesn't always come with a packing slip, so you might have to ask for your name to be put on it. :) Greenlaurel designs is not responsible for fabric & supplies arriving without a name after 60 days.

2) Be sure to ship your fabric, as well as your template- if making one- as soon as you can after purchasing your listing. Greenlaurel designs is not responsible for storing fabric shipped with no template (if required) after 90 days of listing purchase. I just don't have enough space to keep it. :) I'm sorry!

3) Greenlaureldesigns is not responsible for return shipping costs of your fabric if you decide to cancel your order....but I will be happy to package it and send it back how ever you would like if you cover shipping. :)

About

The Green Laurel Story

I started sewing when I was about 5...Both of my grandmothers sewed for their families and my mom made dresses and doll clothes and costumes for my 2 sisters and me. I was lucky to have parents who encouraged creativity...and who also taught us to be frugal. The combination of those two single traits have been the keys to my inspiration and success.
One of the earliest projects I remember making was a felt "Lowly Worm" stuffed animal from Richard Scary's Busy Busy World. My first sewing machine had a little replaceable thread cartridge in it....I made little pocketbooks and doll clothes and whatever I could think up. My first "real" sewing class was in 8th grade home economics class, but most of what I have learned along the way came from my mom, my grandmothers, or just making a lot of mistakes...a lot of them! I think I was about 12 when I got my first REAL machine...it was very basic~ a rare & valuable trait in a machine these days.... (more on that later) I set it up on a card table in my room and made doll cloths, pocket books and little make up bags...After a little while, my machine would act up (never my fault) and I would go downstairs in tears to get my mom to help make it all better. I have a daughter exactly like that now! :) Around this time, I also made something I call a picnic quilt which is really a quilt that I lost patience making, so it turned out just the right size for two friends (very small ones) to sit on and eat lunch. I think there are many kinds of people who sew, but I do not fall into the category of "quilter". I love geometric patterns on fabric and I am drawn to neatness and organization, but I don't like to follow rules when I sew. I also don't like to cross stitch~~So I think this is how I got into dress designing and custom slipcovers...they involve no patterns and no rules. Each project is a challenging puzzle to solve with several possible routes to the desired outcome. Each project is its own adventure.
I mentioned above, that I like simple machines...
I've owned 2 "fancy" computer machines and they no longer reside in my home. When my grandmother passed away a few years ago, I became the proud new owner of her "two ton", solid metal, made in America Singer that does one thing and does it GREAT! It sews in a straight line through anything you push under it's needle-- without hesitation. They just don't make things like they used to.
So, the conclusion to my shop story, is really not an ending at all, but rather, a beginning...I taught second grade until my daughter was born, and then longed for something more flexible which would provide an income, yet give me more time with her. After much encouragement and a few part time jobs to supplement during her tiny baby years...my sewing and design business took flight via friends, family, former colleagues, a wonderful little antique store called Fetch in historic Hillsborough, and, of course, Etsy. The name Green Laurel comes from my love of the color green and all it represents: freshness, renewal, spring, life, and Ireland...and Laurel, my middle name, is a beautiful flowering shrub native to the mountains of North Carolina, home to my ancestors.
Enjoy your visit to my shop and please send me a message if I can help you in any way! Thank you for your support of handmade goods and small businesses!
