Color, yarn and imagination! What's not to like...
Hi,
I'm Melissa, owner of Green Sheep Yarns. First and foremost I'm a mom and a wife, but crafting has been with me all my life. I especially love recycling and repurposing objects.
I always had a soft spot for fabrics and fibers. I learned knitting and crochet as a kid, and I started sewing when I was 13. A few years back, wanting to knit a blanket, I decided to recycle the yarns from various sweaters I found in thrift shops. I enjoyed the unravelling process, and discovering the different textures I could find while doing so.
Every sweater is carefully unstitched, then unraveled. It requires a lot of patience, but the end result is quite satisfying. I also developped techniques with time, that enabled me to be faster at it. One of them, is to simply stay away from any 'acrylic' based fuzzy sweater. LOL, I learned that the hard way!
With time I started to revamp these yarns by dyeing them. I have various dyes for different fiber contents, but it is always a joy to work with wool based sweaters.
In 2019, I discovered a new passion in spinning! With my wheel, I can litterally give a 'new spin' to these old yarns! :) I will either twist them together to make blends, but my favorite thing is to cut them up and mix them with wool rovings, and spin them into 'scrap yarns'. I can really infuse them with color and texture that way!
I truly enjoy, and put all my heart in being able to offer yarns that, I hope, will not only inspire you, but also, make your artwork stand out by being eco-friendly.
