Hello I'm a freelance artist from Montreal (Canada). I mostly work with traditional medias like acrylics and colored pencils on wood or paper but I love to try other things like plushies. I'm inspired by creepy and cute, candy and blood, childhood and monsters, old horror movies and Halloween.

About

About me and my art

I draw since I was kid. My father told me once that when I was a kid, all I wanted for gifts is pencils. In high school, people liked what I was doing, I could see them smile and laugh. It made me feel special. This feeling is so important at that age. I was the girl who is good at arts. Later I studied in graphic design because I thought it could give me more structured knowledges than arts. But the art appeal was too strong so I chose illustration over design. First years, I was making digital art with Illustrator but I recently choose to give up and go back to traditional medias.

Inspirations

Halloween is my favorite celebration, I wait all year long for that time. So I start to draw halloween related stuff in August because I can't wait longer. I'm fascinated by surnatural, magic and fantasy. This is so much more interesting and funny than reality. I always has been drawn by horror movies like Dracula or Beetlejuice, cartoons, monsters and sci-fi movies, which it can explain why I love create characters. Many of the themes I use are related to childhood, like little critters, candy, clowns, Halloween, bright colors... I have very good memories of my own childhood and I am probably a bit nostalgic about it. Sometimes I can be inspired by less joyfull themes like cannibalism, religion and sexual innuendos and I love the contrast between them. I like to see people's faces who smile and are perturbed or confused at the same time. I like this kind of reaction. Humour is very important to me.

Process

I pick a theme, which is, most of the time, related to the events of year. I make a research for ideas, symbols, patterns, ect. I make as many doodles as I'm inspired in my sketchbook. Then I start to make sketches with markers and colored pencils, mostly of characters. It helps to make pop out others ideas. When I have something I really like or I can see it finished, I do a study or I make colors tests in Photoshop and start for the piece.

Every art commission is welcome. I'm always thankful for new inspiration!

I try very hard to display the real beauty of my items. But since it's only photographed, colours might look a little bit different in "real life". Make sure you can handle that well....
